The World Health Organization estimates there are 800,000 suicides every year across the globe. Suicide occurs among all populations, however those at greater risk live in 3rd world nations, rural and economically challenged regions, where access to lethal means is greater and access to good, quality physical and mental healthcare is less. Suicide is a leading cause of death, especially among the young, and is correlated with a prior (known or undiagnosed) mental illness and an external situation that creates an immediate crisis. It is important therefore to know a little about how a pandemic might affect those among us who live with one or more of the following mental illnesses that might be especially impacted by this pandemic.

In soviet NYC, city Kills YOU!
Aren’t we supposed to consider suicide simply an exercise of an adult’s personal autonomy?
Fear, hopelessness and anxiety fuels this mental disorder any outside influence aka (constant media hysteria) gives legitimacy to an already deep seated affliction.
sad
Just make suicide illegal. Problem solved.
It’s sad, but you’re going to see more of it. Too many in our society live at the precipice of disaster on a good day. Too many are alone, due to long term social liberal policies, such as easy divorce and women’s liberation. Too many don’t have resources and have failed to save or prepare financially, or even work to their potential over their lifetimes due to the long-term “promise” of social security and big government programs. Too many are in poor shape simply and overall due to poor education brought on by our pitiful state-run educational system.
You’re going to see it and it won’t be fun — hopefully after all this is over, people who survive are going to learn some hard lessons.
Just make suicide illegal. Problem solved.
with the death penalty, of course.
Agreed. Like Western Europe, America is no longer orthodox Christian but rather Godless, whether via the many versions of Christless Christianity or via evolutionary humanism in its various types. If for both camps this one life is all there is then eat, drink, and be merry. But now the specter of coronavirus threatens to shorten lives, thus a spirit of fear (of death and of whether life exists after death and the imagined horrors it entails) drives hopelessness, anxiety, dread, and so on.
Wow. You shout from the rooftops that everybody’s gonna die - shelter in place! Then you’re surprised that the weak-minded kill themselves out of depression and fear?
This is a natural consequence of fear-mongering. Our milennials have already been hammered by years of climate hysteria, now this. What would you expect?
I never shouted a damn thing other than the truth.
Naturally. Zero recidivism.
People were committing suicide in 1910 to prevent being “gassed” by Haley’s Comet.
Nothing happened.
Heres a thought. Allow churches to meet.
You summed it up so well. I couldnt prove it but I suspect the death rate will be higher due to the effects of all this shutting down than of the virus. Tragic.
A caller on the Chris Plante Show yesterday said his nephews son killed himself after being laid off from his oil job in South Dakota.
For many people on the edge already, this forced economic downturn could be the trigger.
Be good, and look out for those like this and give them good counsel.
Not you, personally. I’m talking about the media and their willing accomplices.
A few resources.
