Which is a bummer because it got my hopes up.
The article the author is citing where Fauci said it may not be much worse than the flu was published on Feb 28, two weeks BEFORE his comments speculating that it might be 10 times worse than the flu.
The author either got mixed up on the dates or is deliberately publishing falsehoods.
Evidence for the latter:
” Fauci conceded COVID-19’s death rate was twice that of the common flu, making it roughly 0.28 percent”
Neither “twice” not .28 appear anywhere in the NEJM article. The author may have mixed up the dates by accident but I don’t see how he could have invented those statistics by accident.
