Dr. Anthony Fauci, the health specialist on the coronavirus task force, has said the virus’s mortality rate is closer to that of a bad case of the flu. In a Thursday report published by the New England Journal of Medicine, Fauci conceded COVID-19’s death rate was twice that of the common flu, making it roughly 0.28 percent.
That rate is exceptionally low, especially when compared to that of the SARS and MERS epidemics, which peaked at 9 percent and 36 percent respectively.
His latest comments marked a major about-face for Fauci, who previously claimed the coronavirus was 10 times as deadly as the flu.
“The seasonal flu that we deal with every year has a mortality of 0.1 percent,” he said. “I think if you count all the cases of minimally symptomatic or asymptomatic infection, that probably brings the mortality rate down to somewhere around 1 percent, which means it is 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu.”
Hmmm. Shut down the country for the flu. Funny how there was no alarm during H1N1.
Interesting that China locked in 60 million people over a’bad flu’, and will likely lose their near-monopoly on drug manufacture and many other classes of items, over a ‘bad flu’.

I remember it was reported as a very serious threat, but because of the antipathy towards President Obama, it wasn’t taken seriously by Republicans. However, supplies from the NSS were sent to the states at the same levels as we are seeing today. Check the NSS webpage for the history of H1N1.
Logic tells you that nations do not shut down their economic systems nor is there suspension of global travel except in extraordinary circumstances.

China locked everything down in an attempt to hide the evidence that they had a genetically engineered FLU outbreak. The CCP couldn’t care less about 4 or 10 or 100 thousand Chinese dying of this flu. The overreaction and the media repeated propaganda today is about covering their lab’s tracks. Everyone else, myself included, reacted like you, to the Chinese perceived overreaction and overreacted according. Bottom line, its the flu.
China is, for lack of a better term, a sewer. Public health and conditions there suck. This is to be expected as China is a communist country where the people are seen as disposable possessions of the state. They only cared about locking people away or fixing this because they did not want any economic interruption to their position in the global supply chain.
Otherwise, they would have let their people die without a care and still might have for all we know.
A virus takes its patient population as it finds it. So yes, China did lock in it’s people because this virus fed on the absolutely abhorrent health conditions of the Chines people like a child eats candy.
A flu might have done the same thing. So might the next “excuse to take away your liberty” virus that comes from there.

Where the HCS collapses, like Italy and Spain (and Iran, and Wuhan, and imminently NYC if they don’t act faster), the death toll surges. Right now 1 in 10 cases of CCP-19 dies in Italy.
When enough of the cops in NYC go down they better have the NG on hand.
No alarm during H1N1 is Obama administration incompetence, but this thing is gonna blow H1N1 out of the water even with all these containment and mitigation efforts.

That is a mortality rate of 10/712 = 1.4%
That is the lowest possible number, because seven weeks later there are still 105 unresolved active cases, including 15 still classified as serious/critical.
This is with the very best medical care.

Truth is, he doesn’t know, and neither does anyone else, what this death “rate” is going to be.
We have Wuhan China, and what we can figure out happened. Hopefully we have good sattelites and ground intelligence.
We have Italy. I suppose all the data is there, for what that region most effected represents.
We have a lot of ventilators being used, and on order. We have new (old) drugs being evaluated.
And we have the MSM in there stirring the pot for the Democratic Party.

You may want to visit China when this is over, or talk to people who have been there. What you say was true 30 years ago, but not anymore, at least in their cities.
And speaking of cities, try visiting one of the ‘hoods’ in any US city - and then try to find the same in a larger Chinese city. You won’t.

I have to disagree. The alarms were sounded on H1N1. At the time, however, Obamacare was being shoved down our throats. The LAST thing that the democrats wanted was a deadly virus scaring the sheeple about healthcare while Obamacare was being choked down our throats.
So Biden was tasked with running the coverup handling of the virus and the lapdog media went into full cover mode.
60+ Americans including myself got that flu and the death toll was 12k+.
I suppose we should be thankful that none of this happened then. If Obama and the Dems has figured out that the time what they could have done with H1N1, Obamacare would have been seen as a laugher.
Gun shops closed?!?! Declare a national lockdown, nationalize all the industries, mobilize the National Guard and reserves and go door to door and get the guns.
