The passage of the support package bought him a little time...very little really, but maybe enough. Things will get hard for the average American pretty fast. The problem is that the society at large is panicked, at least to the point that the fear of the virus exceeds the concern over their future. He has to hold out until a peak is reached and the downhill side is obvious before taking the straightjacket off the economy. Otherwise he is handing power to the Democrats.
It’s a tight thread of the needle...we are in uncharted waters, never before has the world’s pre-eminent economy been shutdown overnight. That would normally be the end of the society, the nation, almost immediately. How much time he has is still a very big question.
