The death toll in Spain has soared over 4,800 after 769 people died in 24 hours, in what was a record one-day figure for fatalities in the country, the government said.
Spain has the world's second-highest death toll after Italy, and has so far suffered 4,858 deaths, while the number of cases jumped to 64,059.
Italy today announced announced 919 deaths in one day. It was the highest daily tally since the outbreak began.

I don’t buy it. I read somewhere that Italy is including any hospital death as coronavirus no matter the cause.

Do you have a source for that, other than “the internet?”
And curious, why wouldn’t you buy it? What would Spain have to gain from lying about that? That simply makes no sense to me.

Spain has free Universal health care.

As you keep saying. But what's supposed to be the point? Did the doctors cause the pandemic? Are you saying their treatment is no good? Are you saying that with the same incompetent leaders in the Spanish government and paid health care things would turn out differently? When are you going to start making sense?
Since you're blabbering your one simpleminded sentence let me add to it a bit. Unlike America, an undocumented person can't walk into an emergency room and expect treatment. They have to show proof of insurance, pay cash or hit the road. Non-Spanish residents have to show a year of private health insurance paid in advance or they won't be granted residency. If you have private insurance and you have to go to a Spanish National clinic you pay then you have to get your insurance company to reimburse you. For Spanish Nationals their "free" care comes with about 50% of their income in taxes plus a 21% VAT on just about everything they buy. Small business owners have what they call an autonomo, a tax they have to pay every month whether they make a profit or not. Even now, under lockdown they have to pay. No free rides. If America cracked down on freeloaders like the Spanish do health care in the States would be a lot more affordable.
For an example, someone has a history of heart disease is tested positive for coronavirus and is hospitalized due to pneumonia. That person while being treated for the coronavirus dies of heart failure.
Did the person die because of the coronavirus or had he not otherwise had the virus would he have still died at that exact date and time of heart failure?
There’s no way to know the answer to that but what is known is that if you have any condition that will eventually kill you the coronavirus will do the job right then and there. That’s why the deaths are attributed to the virus, because any other conditions you have add complications on top of it that will kill you. All that entire article ends up saying is that having pre-existing conditions increases the death rate, which was ALREADY KNOWN.

US death certificates are more exacting, mostly because of our record keeping protocols.
True, but it’s like the normal flu. A death certificate won’t say you died of the flu if you died of an underlying condition. In Italy, and probably Spain, an aging patient, who may or may not have been tested will be assumed to have died of Covid19. Even in the “Spanish Flu” epidemic in 1918 in the USA, death certificates would show the underlying cause of death. I have several of those in my family genealogical files. I recently had a Doctor visit and my Doctor prevailed upon me to take the second and improved pneumonia vaccine (I had previously taken Prevnar, the first vaccine) and his reasoning was that since secondary infections such as pneumonia cause most of the older patient deaths in Coronavirus patients, people over 60 should be vaccinated against pneumonia. Just common sense.
What this crisis has done is exposed the vast swaths of ignorance and misinformation rampant on this site. On average, it seems that being a conservative is no guarantee of being in control of reason and rationalism. In addition to a poor grasp of math and statistics, there is a pronounced predilection for conspiracy theories, a malady that the conservative movement has suffered for more than a century.
Some time earlier this week or perhaps late last week, someone posted a graph showing predicted rise in cases/deaths for various countries. This was just when we started going on lockdown here in the US. The slope of Italy’s curve looked really bad, but Spain’s was much more vertical. I find it discouraging that both nations are still reporting increased deaths every day.
Spain had that women’s march in Madrid, I suspect that was the “seed”.
That same poster has been in multiple threads about Spain where he posts his one sentence summary of the situation then leaves. Fr all I know he could be doing the same thing in every thread for every country that doesn’t have the same health care system as the USA. I just wondered what he was trying to accomplish.
Think about it. The number of deaths per day will DROP as those most at risk die off.
As will the numbers hospitalized as those most likely to get very sick will have died or gotten better.
Those vulnerable people that took precautions will live, those that were careless won’t.
I always say, that’s life and death in the jungle.
Now its life and death in the concrete jungle.
