Sorry, the EU is a country, consisting of squabbling states, just like the US.
Nope. That was the point of Brexit - it’s not a country. If it was a country it would
1. Be legally defined as a country - it isn’t
2. have a constitution - it doesn’t
3. have a common decision making that isn’t depend on being unanimous and is implemented uniformly - it fails at that as the covid-19 pandemic has shown. A unitary state like the USA fares better than a confederation
it’s nowhere near being like the USA. The EU is more comparable to India - which IS a country - a country formed of 28 nations (25 different scripts, 60+ languages, 4 races, multiple religions etc.) - but is not centralized in any way. It’s still a loose confederation and that’s why you have countries closing their borders - imagine if Colorado shut down its borders?
