I see an opportunity for advanced infrared cameras to pick out people showing fever signs in a crowd. This is eminently do-able.
It could contribute but the asymptomatic will walk right by. That phase of the illness last an average of 5 days, from what we read.
FLIR isn't cheap but it would be easy enough to automate.
A great trick (and a little 1984 style creepy) would be to marry a camera with facial recognition software to the FLIR camera and have the FLIR pick out the people with a fever and have the camera system with facial recognition identify the person with the fever.
Then the system could call the persons cellphone and notify them that they are sick.
