Doctor, former Kansas governor says coronavirus patients 'doing better' in testing with anti-malaria drug
Dr. Jeff Colyer on the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 President Trump calls the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine a game changer in treating the coronavirus; reaction and analysis from former Kansas governor, practicing surgeon Dr. Jeff Colyer.
Anti-malaria drugs ike hydroxychloroquine -- which are being used to treat coronavirus (COVID-19) patients -- are showing positive results, former Kansas governor and practicing surgeon Dr. Jeff Colyer said Wednesday.
Appearing on "America's Newsroom" with host Ed Henry, Colyer said that data from testing at the University of Kansas and in the Kansas City community have proven the drug to have a "safe safety profile."
"I'm one of those people that has had both the white coat and the blue coat on as a policymaker, and it is an important balance," he explained. "[The] white coat in me would love to have more standardized tests with this. However, we have a lot of data, and in fact, about 21 percent of all prescriptions in the United States are used off-label."
"We now have a couple of studies, really, they're large case reports, that show that people who were on this medication have fewer symptoms and are doing better," he continued further. "We're going to be getting a lot more data over the next couple of weeks."
That said, Colyer noted that this was the only drug physicians could turn to at the moment.
"But, the important thing is as a policymaker you are wanting to help people. As a doctor, I want to help people as well, but we have to get them the right drug. And, this is, frankly, the only one that is in our arsenal," he told Henry.

LOL
Baseball great Lefty Gomez once said, “I’d rather be lucky than good.” One thing that the U.S.A. has going for it right now is that we’re very fortunate to have a president who’s lucky. This is totally unscientific and irrational, I know, but Donald Trump is lucky. Things have an uncanny way of falling into place for him. If this drug combo turns out to be stunningly effective and makes a major dent in this pandemic, it would just the sort of lucky break that we’ve come to expect. And if it doesn’t turn out to work as well as we hope? Trump still probably wins in November because... in another lucky break... his likely opponent Joe Biden couldn’t be weaker.

God! I just looked 'it' up.
Personally, I find that disgusting.
Make up your mind. Drugs like this are showing positive results, or only this?
Disturbing and horrifying.
That’s an interesting angle. The Chinese are super tuned into luck and luckiness, or at least that’s the stereotype. If there’s anything to it, then Trump must scare the pants off of them with his lifelong lucky streak.
.
Yep. This appears to work, so use it now. Meanwhile, other doctors can work in the lab to do additional research on long term vaccines or other treatments.

No.
I have generally found that:
.....LUCK IS THE RESIDUE OF DESIGN
....... trust me.
I agree - its not luck. Hes smart.
He picks the right side of issues, he defends the Constitution. By doing so, he aligns himself with the wisdom of the founders. Ive often heard him say at rallies that hes glad hes for lowering taxes - he wouldnt want to have the Democrats side of these debates - they want to raise taxes, they defend abortions, they want to take away the 2nd Amendment they are for open borders, etc., etc.... they pick the stupid side of arguments - there way doesnt work. Thats why hes so lucky - he picks the winning side.
As the Jim Croce song goes:
You don’t tug on superman’s cape
You don’t spit into the wind
You don’t pull the mask off that old lone ranger
And you don’t mess around with Jim
President Trump doesnt fight nature - he doesnt try to out think the law of supply and demand - he doesnt call half the voters deplorables - he doesnt give away strategic advantage to our adversaries - he doesnt apologize for American greatness.
We are lucky to have him as President.
I prefer: "The harder I work, the luckier I get."
I already have a great deal of admiration for Trump. If this works out well for Trump, he is going to run away with the election in ways that have never been seen before.
If a future Supreme Court reverses Roe v. Wade and turns the matter of pre-natal infanticide back to the individual states and clearly bars infringements on the right to keep and bear arms, we might just be able to survive as a nation.
The looming alternative has been a breakup like the Soviet Union. I can't picture millions of people willing to kill and die to preserve the mess we were becoming.
So far, it has not been proven effective against coronavirus or COVID-19.
From Malaria Drug Chloroquine No Better Than Regular Coronavirus Care, Study Finds - BL, 2020 March 25, by Michelle Fay Cortez:
The report published by the Journal of Zhejiang University in China showed that patients who got the medicine didn't fight off the new coronavirus more often than those who did not get the medicine. The study involved just 30 patients. Of the 15 patients given the malaria drug, 13 tested negative for the coronavirus after a week of treatment. Of the 15 patients who didn't get hydroxychloroquine, 14 tested negative for the virus. ..... < snip > ..... In the Chinese study, which was conducted by researchers from the department of infection and immunity at the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, the 15 patients who didn't get hydroxychloroquine were treated with conventional care. ..... < snip > ..... One patient treated with hydroxychloroquine progressed to severe disease during the study. Four patients given the medicine developed diarrhea and signs of potential liver damage, compared with three getting conventional treatment. ..... ..... Hydroxychloroquine, a medicine for malaria... touted as a treatment for coronavirus, was no more effective than conventional care, a small study found.
Gilead just received an approval of their promising experimental antiviral remdisivir as an "orphan drug" ("rare disease" drug originally developed for Ebola) but said it will waive its exclusivity to allow competition in marketing and manufacturing.
Yup, all this hand wringing is pathetic. The benefits certainly seem to outweigh the risks. Meanwhile departments, agencies, and scientists want to perform non-stop studies to keep their names in the news.
President Trump is fearless. You know hes doing a great job when they conjure up pandemics out of something thats less likely to kill you then the flu.
guess I needed /s
Small sample size. Did patients have preexisting conditions?

We are lucky to have him as President.
Yes we are. And this country could use about three or four more like him as trusted friends. (I guess that would be asking too much ..... maybe only two more like him.)
;-)

I'm sorry to laugh, but that is a VERY funny sentiment given its context. -- ("I can't picture millions of people willing to kill and die to preserve the mess we were becoming.") -- lol, that is funny and so true.
