I am an ER MD in New Orleans. Class of 98. Every one of my colleagues have now seen several hundred Covid 19 patients and this is what I think I know.

"Clinical course is predictable. 2-11 days after exposure (day 5 on average) flu like symptoms start. Common are fever, headache, dry cough, myalgias(back pain), nausea without vomiting, abdominal discomfort with some diarrhea, loss of smell, anorexia, fatigue.

Day 5 of symptoms- increased SOB, and bilateral viral pneumonia from direct viral damage to lung parenchyma.

Day 10- Cytokine storm leading to acute ARDS and multiorgan failure. You can literally watch it happen in a matter of hours.

81% mild symptoms, 14% severe symptoms requiring hospitalization, 5% critical."

That’s a FACT, Jack!

Your "facts" are for fkn imbeciles...fkn imbecile. You're using imaginary numbers not in your possession. That's how imbeciles come to conclusions, then go around proudly announcing how fkn stupid they are... like you're doing now.

You ever see critical beds getting full like this during flu season? What's going on in Italy happens during flu season?

Flubros need to be put in the idiot corner and ignored and/or made of.

Its really not deadly enough to be a weapon designed to kill, if it killed too many people it would have a harder time spreading. This virus is an economy killer because it shuts everything down. You can have it for a week with no symptoms spreading it the whole time. It creates enough serious cases to shut down the medical system and enough deaths to create panic to shut everything down.

New Orleans is an overcrowded, closed in city with many poor people....

I would have liked the good dr to state something about the history of these people coming to the er..

..smokers probably COPDer's.

..obviously diabetic, which also means kidney disease,

and probably pretty overweight population...

..and since NO is the "chocolate city" I imagine a lot of black people are there which means a historic population with high blood pressure....

this virus hits people that are living on borrowed time...most of them, not all...

I regret their deaths, but tired of the people shouting fire in the movie theatre...there is a reason people are susceptible to disease...

I’ve really been thinking on “How did we get here?” Just speaking for myself but my text books all had entries on “Coronavirus”. I distinctly remember it like yesterday. It was like finding a gold nugget and very valuable. Under the entry all of them, Micro, Path, you name it, it was the only freebie in the book. “...no clinical significance.” You don’t get many freebies like that in Med School w high is why I remember it so vividly and I never missed an answer on Coronavirus. “No clinical significance.” I posted here weeks ago, “Who would ever try to weaponize one of these ‘wimpy’ viruses? It’s not Marburg, Lhasa Fever, Ebola, Q fever or even any of 50 other disease much more ripe for weaponization.

Not to mention millions get the flu every year, if millions got this the amount of deaths would blow the flu out of the park.

You realize the flu - all combined strains have killed FAR more people this year than COVID right?

I don't think many ER docs have time to post on FR threads, these days. 😅

That's your immune system overeating to the virus in your lungs.

I read that this is why older people are doing much worse with this virus. Usually your immunities help fight off something. With this virus, the opposite is happening. The older you are, the more immunities you have built up over the years. They overreact and cause incredible lung damage.

“Not to mention millions get the flu every year, if millions got this the amount of deaths would blow the flu out of the park.”

Dr. Campbell on his YouTube channel today said that:

It took 167 days from the first confirmed case in Wuhan for total confirmed cases worldwide to hit 100,000.

It took another 11 days for it to hit 200,000

It too just 4 more days for it to hit 300,000

We are at 471,000 right now https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

People don’t realize, the guys who do this stuff are at USAMRIID. None of us in clinical or most research have anything to do with them or have even seen them since med school. Sure we are aware of what has happened in recent decades, but i really do believe most of us have felt China’s problem was a terrible Ro due to their environment. We never thought that this disease could come here. I certainly didn’t.

"Hypoxia =. Low Oxygen Dyspnea =. Difficulty breathing DKA=. Diabetic Kyoto (they mean Keto-) Acidoses, Causes Fat to be broken down too fast, causing an overload in the Liver, which results in too much acid in the blood. Renal Failure, = kidney failure Encephalopathy = Brain Damage All in all, multiple organ failure/ damage."

NONE of these generally present with regular flu and ALL of these require more medical help/rescue.

We hear of the airway rescue and SOB (shortness of breath), but we do NOT hear about the cardiac issues or other organ failures that happen.
