Nevadas Governor Steve Sisolak (D) on Tuesday issued an emergency order barring the use of anti-malaria drugs such as chloroquine for Coronavirus patients.
Last week Sisolak shut down casinos and only kept open essential businesses like grocery stores and health care facilities.
In addition to barring the use of chloroquine for Coronavirus patients on Tuesday, Nevadas governor also banned social gatherings of more than 10 people.
The Associated Press reported (emphasis our own):
LAS VEGAS (AP) Nevadas governor on Tuesday night issued an emergency order banning gatherings of more than 10 people in the state indoors or outdoors, a more aggressive move to try to stop the spread of the coronavrius.
Sisolak said the order does not apply to private homes or the homeless, but includes places like social clubs, parks, libraries and sports fields.
Sisolak signed an emergency order earlier Tuesday barring the use of anti-malaria drugs for someone who has the coronavirus. The order restricting chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine came after President Donald Trump touted the medication as a treatment and falsely stated that the Food and Drug Administration had just approved the use of chloroquine to treat patients infected with coronavirus. Sisolak said in a statement that theres no consensus among experts or Nevada doctors that the drugs can treat people with COVID-19.
Anyone who violates the order will be charged with at least a misdemeanor crime and it remains in place until April 16 (after Easter).
President Trump on Saturday expressed optimism about two drugs that he said could be one of the biggest game changers in medicine hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.
Hydroxychloroquine is a drug used in the treatment and prevention of malaria. Azithromycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat many different types of infections in the respiratory system, eyes, ears, and skin, as well as sexually transmitted diseases.
A 52-year-old Coronavirus victim recently said he expected to die but hydrochloroquine saved his life:
An hour after an IV with the medicine, he says his heart felt like it was beating out of his chest. They had to come in and get me calmed down and take care of me. I had another episode about two hours later where I just got to the point where I couldnt breathe and my heart was pounding again so they gave me some Benadryl through the system and something else. Im not sure what it was. It allowed me to go to sleep and when I woke up at exactly 4:45 in the morning, I woke up like nothing ever happened.Miraculously, hes since had no fever or pain, feels fine and hes able to breathe again.
To me, there was no doubt in mind that I wouldnt make it until morning, Giardinieri said. So to me the drug saved my life. I just want everyone to know theres an option. You dont have to just sit there and hydrate. Theres a medicine thats working.
But now Coronavirus patients in Nevada will not have access to these anti-malaria drugs because the governor said so.
Not likely. If the death rate is higher in Nevada than in other states, the governor's career is going to be in real trouble. He's not going to risk that on a harebrained scheme like that. More likely, he's just banning the drug because Trump recommended it. He may be stupid, but he's not reckless so far as his future is concerned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHY? .. that's easy. Because Trump is saying that he thinks it could be a breakthrough! MOst Politicians with a D beside their name will go the complete opposite direction! They are evil!
New York also just banned prescriptions for hyrdoxychloroquine and chloroquine. At least NY has now begun testing the former.
had an infectious disease doc on tonight that also treats autoimmune diseases with hydrochloriquine, and has been using it for many years with a very safe track record, and he can not understand the hesitancy to using the drug for a mere 5-7 days where the side effects will be practically zero-
.
He argued “Time is of the essence- EVERY single day is of importance” in other words, people are dying needlessly every single day while bureaucrats wring their hands needlessly! He’s been using the drug for autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus etc for a long time with very good results apparently- something I’m gonna have to research- but I’
m in total agreement with him- time is of the essence, and this is a “Cost Vs Benefit” scenario and we should NOT be holding out for “zero risk” while Dr Fuici (sp?) blathers on about having to wait until NEXT flu season when the virus is still raging again, claiming that we’ll then be ‘so much closer to treatments and vaccines approvals by then-
.
Seriously? He was trying to spin that like that was ‘exciting news’, “Gee- We’ve almost got treatments, and vaccines- just gotta wait a year and a 1/2 for approval” - and was urging folks to just ‘wait it out’; basically- How many 10’s of 1000’s will die by middle of NEXT year’s flu season when this virus hits us again? Unbelievable- You can bet your bottom dollar that if HE or HIS family and friends get this virus- they will immediately get the drug- or anyone in government for that matter-
So according to the order he did this to preserve supply for malaria victims? When did the Nevada malaria pandemic start?
and while states all around them are giving the drug and saving everyone- folks in nevada will be gasping for breath as they lie on a gurney drowning in their own fluids- but still the survivors will vote them back in next election
Wonder why drs who can read small studies went ahead and got some for themselves and family? Maybe because they saw dumb stuff like this coming.
Rotflmao!
His concern is hoarding for an unproven use. This could deny patients who it's proven need the drugs - for lupus for example - access to them.
> ...what an idiot AZ has elected...
This is in Nevada! Don’t blame Arizona. We catch enough flak for the idiots we do elect.
Send toilet paper and all is forgiven. /jk
This is worse than when Governor Blanco barred the military from helping the Katrina victims. These Democrats are seeing this crisis as an opportunity to act like authoritarians.
Whoa.
Vote his atz out!
Lol. My bad. I was honestly drinking and watching TV. I stand in shame and bow to the good people of AZ. Its NM that should be pissed. Old Mexico, New Mexico, whats the difference. Neither are AZ.
Each day makes me think this all may be just over risk adverse. I trust PDJT so hopefully he will use the bully pulpit to speak truth into the world.
My answer would be....arrest me
(There's a lot more moolah for Big Pharma and their friends (like this Nevada governor, and other sleazy politicians), in developing expensive new meds to address a medical problem, than in using cheaper, effective older ones.)
It is not stupid, it is cunning evil, the heart of demon rats everywhere.
I would love to see him send in the local police to arrest doctors at the hospital after they prescribe the now illegal Drug combination to treat patients with the coronavirus. Sorry Grandma died from a preventable death because a bunch of our doctors were in county jail for prescribing FDA approved medication.
I would hope someone files suit first thing in the morning.
Okay, this actually would be a somewhat sensible reason. Has he stated this anywhere?
