Nevadas Governor Steve Sisolak (D) on Tuesday issued an emergency order barring the use of anti-malaria drugs such as chloroquine for Coronavirus patients.
Last week Sisolak shut down casinos and only kept open essential businesses like grocery stores and health care facilities.
In addition to barring the use of chloroquine for Coronavirus patients on Tuesday, Nevadas governor also banned social gatherings of more than 10 people.
The Associated Press reported (emphasis our own):
LAS VEGAS (AP) Nevadas governor on Tuesday night issued an emergency order banning gatherings of more than 10 people in the state indoors or outdoors, a more aggressive move to try to stop the spread of the coronavrius.
Sisolak said the order does not apply to private homes or the homeless, but includes places like social clubs, parks, libraries and sports fields.
Sisolak signed an emergency order earlier Tuesday barring the use of anti-malaria drugs for someone who has the coronavirus. The order restricting chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine came after President Donald Trump touted the medication as a treatment and falsely stated that the Food and Drug Administration had just approved the use of chloroquine to treat patients infected with coronavirus. Sisolak said in a statement that theres no consensus among experts or Nevada doctors that the drugs can treat people with COVID-19.
Anyone who violates the order will be charged with at least a misdemeanor crime and it remains in place until April 16 (after Easter).
President Trump on Saturday expressed optimism about two drugs that he said could be one of the biggest game changers in medicine hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.
Hydroxychloroquine is a drug used in the treatment and prevention of malaria. Azithromycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat many different types of infections in the respiratory system, eyes, ears, and skin, as well as sexually transmitted diseases.
A 52-year-old Coronavirus victim recently said he expected to die but hydrochloroquine saved his life:
An hour after an IV with the medicine, he says his heart felt like it was beating out of his chest. They had to come in and get me calmed down and take care of me. I had another episode about two hours later where I just got to the point where I couldnt breathe and my heart was pounding again so they gave me some Benadryl through the system and something else. Im not sure what it was. It allowed me to go to sleep and when I woke up at exactly 4:45 in the morning, I woke up like nothing ever happened.Miraculously, hes since had no fever or pain, feels fine and hes able to breathe again.
To me, there was no doubt in mind that I wouldnt make it until morning, Giardinieri said. So to me the drug saved my life. I just want everyone to know theres an option. You dont have to just sit there and hydrate. Theres a medicine thats working.
But now Coronavirus patients in Nevada will not have access to these anti-malaria drugs because the governor said so.
Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) is a dummy, grandstanding for political points when he should be focused on protecting the health, jobs, and prosperity of Nevada residents.
There will be ample supplies of the drug, and doctors don't withhold treatment from critically ill people in order to preserve medical supplies for the less ill except in extreme circumstances.
Dr. Fauci is a bureaucrat AND an idiot that doesnt know common sense, if people are close to death what the hell harm can it do to use the medication other than the harm of Trump was right and getting people back to work!!!
agreed- He is touting ‘Zero Risk’- Yet if he had the virus- he would throw ‘Zero Risk’ out the window and take the drug- but he expects us all to wait for a product that has ‘zero risk’- even if it means 10’s of 1000’s of deaths while waiting for it
One the most bone-headed moves I ever saw.
There will be ample supplies of the drug
*******************
There will be ample supplies once production gets cranked up but in the short term maybe a shortage is a real possibility?
And he would counter the argument about critically ill CV patients needing the drug by saying it hasn’t been proven effective for CV. It may be a cynical argument, but that’s what he’d say.
I suspect his root motivation is spiteful TDS but I’m just wargaming his possible arguments here.
BTW, where was protecting existing users given as a justification? I don’t see it in the AP report.
Of course they can’t stop the VA from treating you with HCQ or any other FDA approved drug. And HCQ was approved in 1955 I believe. ANY Dr. Can prescribe it for off-label use.
Now, whether the lawless moron gov will TRY to interfere is another story. I’d like to see him try against a man who can resist.
Why is this the governor’s decision to make? Isn’t a medical decision better left to medical people?
I thought that trials are already beginning to establish whether the antimalarial is efficacious against Covid-19.
This governor is about to have some problems with his citizens.
I took Plaquenil for 15 years at 200 mg twice a day. I quit a couple of years ago because my symptoms (joint inflammation) went into remission. Don’t know if I have any residual still in my system or not.
You’re right, it would be an excellent study to see if ( present or past) users of Plaquenil were getting protection from COVID -19 infection. Very interesting indeed.
“And he would counter the argument about critically ill CV patients needing the drug by saying it hasnt been proven effective for CV.”
______
He already did =>
“Sisolak said in a statement that theres no consensus among experts or Nevada doctors that the drugs can treat people with COVID-19.”
Feel Ze POWAH!!!
Cuomo just banned it in NYS for off label use, for anybody who isn't in a Cuomo approved study.
That is exactly right, entitled mobsters.
Up here in Reno we have no say what happens in the state, whatever the nitwit libtards want in LV they get and the rest of us have to suffer as a result.
Doesn't matter. He has now scared Nevada doctors not to prescribe it.
We now call it NevaDUH. At least in parts of Washoe County.
Sisolak, tree, rope.
Cuomo just banned it in NYS for off label use, for anybody who isn’t in a Cuomo approved study.
+++++
My interpretation of this: You can continue off label use but to be legal you have to sign this document pledging to provide the study with your data.
If it's that simple, that may not be too bad.
And why does the governor need to force the issue? I would bet that most would want to help save lives and voluntarily provide the study with the data.
There are horrible risks with chemotherapy YET we are using it everyday!!
