Artists are some of those hardest hit by the coronavirus crisis and San Francisco Mayor London Breed's office appears to have their back. This morning Breed tweeted out a press release announcing an Arts Relief Program funded by $2.5 million from the city.

TOPICS: Culture/Society
KEYWORDS:
prioritizing the needs of organizations serving the most vulnerable — "black, indigenous, immigrant, trans, and people with disabilities."

Even in the time of global crisis San Francisco still out does itself in virtue signaling nonsense.

What makes people on this list more vulnerable??

A disability, unless it is one that somehow affects how well you can fight off a virus, shouldn’t even be on the list.

I am almost deaf in my right ear. I think it would not affect my experience with the virus at all.

Unless the virus yells warning signals before it enters yours system :)

I don’t see how being cooped up prevents creation of art, however ugly it may be. Art is generally important to society, but it’s nonessential and will certainly return after this virus response is over.

sell your art online. Geez people.

The successful ones already do. You can type, 'original paintings for sale' into your browser and search images. There's literally something for every taste. Some of it is actually good.

The mayor is just trying to bail out the useless crucifix in a jar of urine types.

Listened to a biography of Bob Dylan once about how he got his start in New York back in the day. He and some friends carpooled and drove in from Minnesota one day.

The friends eventually tired of the bar, night club and bistro scene and went back to their real jobs.

Bob stayed and did everything he could to hang out with the artistic crowd. In return for waiting tables and keeping the place clean, they allowed him to sack out in one of their boom-boom rooms when business was slow in the early morning hours. Eventually, they discovered that Bob had more talent for music and especially songwriting than they did. So he became an entertainer, got a place of his own and the rest, as they say, was history.

There was always more wannabes to occupy the boom-boom rooms thus vacated.

What does art really contribute to our society? Sure it’s nice to look at and great art is so expensive that only the wealthy can afford to possess it. Art just sits there, you can’t eat it, it does nothing and literally offers nothing that will better anyone’s life. No wonder SF is now a laughing stock and a huge humanitarian failure.
