GOP details Pelosi's $2.5 trillion 'socialist wish list' in coronavirus aid package
Washington Times ^ | 3/23/20 | Dave Boyer

House Republicans on Monday night offered a detailed critique of what they called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “socialist wish list” in House Democrats’ $2.5 trillion proposal for responding to the coronavirus outbreak.

“Speaker Pelosi unveiled legislation aimed at exploiting the COVID-19 public health crisis by attempting to force the inclusion of a socialist wish list of policies that have nothing to do with the public health and economic emergency,” said House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, Louisiana Republican.

After poring over the 1,400-page proposal, Mr. Scalise offered his characterization of Republicans’ objections to the following items:

Under the heading of “Union Giveaways”:

• Nullifies the White House executive orders on federal collective bargaining and codifies taxpayer-funded union official time.

• Requires a labor union representative on every airline’s board of directors.

• Multiemployer pension bailout lacking needed reforms.

Under the heading of “Union Giveaways”:

• Nullifies the White House executive orders on federal collective bargaining and codifies taxpayer-funded union official time.

• Requires a labor union representative on every airline’s board of directors.

• Multiemployer pension bailout lacking needed reforms.

• Permanently raises the minimum wage to $15 for any business that receives federal aid for COVID-19.

• Cancels all debt owed by the U.S. Postal Service to the Treasury.

Under the heading “Green New Deal priorities”:

• Requires all airlines that receive assistance to offset carbon emissions for domestic flights by 2025.

• Includes a $1 billion “cash for clunkers” airplane program where the Transportation Department buys fuel-inefficient planes from airlines in exchange for agreeing to buy new ones.

• Includes expansive new tax-credit for solar and wind energy.

Under “Student Loan Forgiveness”:

• $10,000 blanket loan forgiveness.

Under “Federalizing Elections”:

• Mandates how states must run elections, including the nationalization of ballot harvesting, requiring early voting, same day registration, and no-excuse vote by mail.

• Puts states at risk of costly litigation if they are unable to implement these stringent mandates ahead of the 2020 election.

Under “Immigration Provisions”:

• Requires the Homeland Security Department to automatically extend visas and work authorizations expiring within the next year, including those with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Temporary Protected Status, for an amount of time equal to their prior visa, authorization or status.

• Limits Customs and Border Patrol’s ability to shutdown processing centers if there is a health crisis on the border and requires CBP to assure the timely adjudication of asylums applications.

• Would allow certain funding to go to sanctuary cities.

Under “Overreaching Mandates on Businesses”:

• Permanent changes to who can serve on corporate boards of directors for companies that receive assistance for payroll and operating costs.

• Mandatory disclosure on supply chain management.

• Requires board diversity disclosure for all publicly traded companies.

• Ban on all federal rulemaking including non-COVID 19 proposals (extends 30 days after emergency) “in an attempt to delay the current administration from promulgating actions House Democrats disagree with.”
Under “New Permanent Mandates”:

• Virtually rewrites the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program policy with no reference to COVID-19 and permanently disallows rulemaking pertaining to work requirements and eligibility.

• Permanent expansion of Obamacare entitlement, “putting the American taxpayer on the hook for endless and unchecked health insurance spending and would remove all incentives for insurers to reduce the cost of health insurance.”

NP lost touch with reality quite a while ago, does not represent, cares little or nothing about anything except what’s going on on her small minded world, and should be impeached.

Let POTUS line-item veto the crap items in this Porkulus II.

Unconstitutional? Then let the GOP use this as a prime example of why the Rats cannot be trusted, why we need a bigger Senate majority, more conservatives on the SCOTUS, and unleash massive campaign ads to defeat the Rats.

Lose-lose situation for the Rats.

(Real rats, in comparison to the Congressional ones, are cute, intelligent and furry. None were harmed in the making of this post).

In two to three weeks, the rates of infection should (hopefully) stabilize. The economy and many industries will still be in a tailspin, but the immediate need for "crisis" legislation will have passed.

At that point, the Democrat-Communists will have missed their chance to ruin America via legislative coup.

PDJT can win the optics if they show a copy of the bill without the Dem pork. He needs to show how they are hurting Americans. A lot of people get their version of the world from CNNMSNBCCBSABC and thus will not even know this is Dems/pelozis/schumers fault...this is why PDJT needs to not a t like President Bush in this case...too important to care about that...get out the brass knuckles and show he is fighting for our sustenance.

“Mr. Trump, Be presidential and tell Nancy and Chuckie...”
The only reason the Rats are pulling this crap is because there are 6 Senators home sick with positive test results.

No, it is Senate rules issue. It is Parliamentary Procedure issue This is Mitch McConnell's call.

Robert's Rules of Order:

Artivle 8 Sec.46

"The usual method of taking a vote is viva voce (by the voice). The rules require this method to be used in Congress. In small assemblies the vote is often taken by "show of hands," or by "raising the right hand" as it is also called. The other methods of voting are by rising; by ballot; by roll call, or "yeas and nays," as it is also called; by general consent; and by mail. In voting by any of the first three methods, the affirmative answer aye, or raise the right hand, or rise, as the case may be: then the negative answer no, or raise the right hand, or rise."

There's nothing that should be able to prevent a Senate Rules Change for a National Emergency that by video conference presense a Senator can vote (under these circumstances) The same method is used in trial courts for minors to testify per Child Witness Testimony in Court: Protocol for Using Closed-Circuit Equipment

I would argue to McConnell that an exception should be made of in person voting due to the serious and national emergency nature of the situation. Closed-Circuit Testimony is an exception to the rule in Child abuse cases, just as even right no as Courts have closed across the country for in -person hearings the exception is in the cases of Child Abuse because THAT is an emergency situation, such as we are in right now as a nation.

I'm not a lawyer but I do understand Parliamentary Procedure. This is Leader McConnells Voting Nuclear Option. He leads the Majority!

because there are 6 Senators home sick with positive test results.......Wrong. Rand Paul is the only one who has tested positive. The rest have conveniently used self quarantine avoid having to vote on this bill.

I understand the want for the Senators to vote from quarantine, However, I believe Sen. Mitch McConnell is doing the right thing in this case. Why? Because it sets a precedence and when something is established such as voting from other than then the Capitol then it gets abused all too easily. For example, the Constitution clearly states two-thirds of those present to impeach a president. If allowing a vote via Skype or other means of tech, then this would mean a Senator could be in China or elsewhere. Or for lesser votes in the Senate, a Senator could then be absent from D.C. and still vote in this manner. In keeping the traditional vote McConnell still holds the validity and credibility of the vote from the upper chamber of Congress. I know there will be those who disagree, however, it should be noted that once this pandora’s box is opened it will never be able to be closed again and there will be exploitation of this rule in the future.
