The doctors voice was filled with distress.
Dr. Suraj Saggar didnt have much time to talk. At times, he even sounded almost out of breath. Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck is under siege from the coronavirus, and he needed to get back to his patients.
But first, he had a desperate message he needed to send.
They need help.
It looks likes a war zone, said Saggar, Holy Names chief of infectious disease.
The hospital is in such dire need, it took the unprecedented step of pleading to the public for donations to buy critical supplies.
Holy Name is filling with COVID-19 patients. Supplies are running low. Doctors and nurses already at risk of exposure could be put in further danger if they run out of protective equipment, while some already have gotten sick, medical workers said.
The Bergen County hospital located at the epicenter of New Jerseys coronavirus outbreak is on the brink, nearing its capacity and supply stock. And its not alone in this deepening crisis as hospitals throughout the state face diminishing supplies and equipment.
Holy Name is running out of ventilators. The facility is down to only a four-day supply of respirators. Its stock of protective gloves and eye shields are dwindling. And disposable gowns are already gone.
"Everything is running low, Saggar said, speaking rapidly as a clamor of background noise carried over the phone line the cacophony of doctors and nurses rushing around him, tending to patients.

A few years ago I read the hospitals (in Australia) “looked like a war zone” and they were running short of essentials like...aspirin...as a result of socialized medicine. But our MSM somehow never got the memo..........
Some hospitals we’re trying to lock down patients with little or no symptoms when they were trying to isolate them from the population. At this point, that’s just a waste and hopefully they changed their protocols or they will wear themselves out.
They are not going to allow the stock market to gain tomorrow. Something will get out that craps on the markets tomorrow.
They were nearing capacity and running out of supplies.
They are on the rising edge of the bell curve.
Give em a break.
I asked a grocery store clerk tonight if they’ve had anyone sick. She said no, but if they did, they’d be required to close the store.... Hmmmm
How many closed stores you seeing? The stores are a very high touch zone. IF this virus hoax were real, there’d be shut stores due to possible internal contamination in them.
Someone told me that they read that somewhere in CA people were calling 911 if they heard their neighbor cough too much which would turn into a mandatory Ambulance ride/admittance to the local hospital until they could determine if they had the ChiCom virus.
maybe they should actually be treating their patients with life-saving drugs like Plaquenil to cure their patients instead of just watching them die on ventilators ...
I have yet to hear of any stores closing, neither has someone I know who lives in NYC.
Something you flubros might want to consider before you burn through this countrys doctors is if you go too far, you get to me. My DOR is Oct 1978. If it gets so bad I have to go back I will be one of if not the most senior officers in the Medical Corps. We are family here and like family most of you know me. I have been trying to tell you guys why you should be good and most of you are, I believe. Please get on your phones and emails and make sure you let everyone you can know. They really have to take this seriously or the SOB could possibly be near some lever of authority. Many of you have made it clear you wouldnt want that.
The part of your comment ending in “cough too much” is true. The remainder is made up.
I read it, and it sounds pretty bad. If the number of severe cases doubles in the next week, the mortality rate will go way up if they cant get the equipment and more doctors and nurses get too sick to work. It sounds like the mayor and governor dont quite have their stuff together yet.
Im so very glad we have a president who understands supply chains, bottlenecks, and innovative ways to do things.
Quinine-based drugs aren’t going to do much at an advanced stage.
I thought Obamacare fixed all of this
Good to know. It seemed like some fear mongering FB rumor.
Why would you believe a Date of Rank in 1978 would make me 120 years old?
I’m in Bergen county... I’ve heard from one doc today who said its pretty bad.
No. If they are still playing by the rules when they call me (which they probably wont be, Thank God) I really would outrank just about everybody. Many of you shudder at the possibility. Do what you can to see to it that does not happen. Educate your friends and family and isolate yourselves form contamination. Or you could end up with me actually in charge of something. None of us wants that.
