If Americans Can't Work, They'll Need Government
American Thinker ^ | March 23, 2020 | Willam Sullivan

How quickly the soft tyranny of good intentions by the government becomes crushingly oppressive. For those who weren't paying attention, there was a buildup to state governors' issuing orders that American citizens are to remain in their homes, leaving only for "essential" purposes, as Gavin Newsom just ordered all Californians to do.

It began with a simple travel ban, of which even progressives questioned the necessity.

Rosie Spinks, on February 5, argued at the New York Times that Trump's travel ban with China was "unjust and doesn't work anyway." "Respiratory infections ... know no borders. The virus has spread regardless of extreme measures taken by governments around the world," she wrote. She cited Erin Sorell of Georgetown University, who said resources would be better used in "treating sick patients and developing vaccines and other countermeasures."

Keep in mind that back then, she wasn't talking about a global shutdown of commerce that would kill the economies that provide the "resources" that could be better used by "treating patients" and "other countermeasures." The pandemic was little more than a tourism disruptor at that time, and even still, Rosie Spinks was compelled to argue that numerous "experts have said that the majority of people who contract coronavirus will experience it as a respiratory infection they will fully recover from. But the extreme reactions," she continued, like canceling flights and level-four travel warnings, "seem more appropriate for something much worse."

Venezuela and Cuber both have issues with supporting their people using government resources.

Ask these two questions of any political candidate. I can almost guarantee they won't answer properly.

1. Where do our rights come from?
2. What is the purpose of government?

So the Fed/State governments are shutting down entire business segments and we’re supposed to believe the government will “fix” things.

What business has Chuck or Nancy ever ran? Clueless.

People will soon tire of this and will start taking some kind of action.

Government isn’t the solution, it’s the problem.

Government doesnt plow the fields and get up at dawn to get the cows milked

Among other things
If Congress and garbage men all disappeared tomorrow - we’d miss the garbage men.

Any elected official who complained about President Trump's travel ban for non-citizens and has now imposed restrictive measures on own citizens during this fiasco should be ignored (for now) and run out of office (next step).

The same holds true for any elected official (almost universally the same as those described above) who flagrantly defies Federal authorities when it comes to enforcing U.S. immigration law, and yet has no qualms about locking down U.S. citizens today and begging the U.S. government for a massive financial bailout.

Obeying an @sshole like this is like using a doctor whose track record is so bad that he can't even get malpractice insurance.

F#%& every one of these people.

Precisely- A Democrats utopian dream- people unarmed and dependent on government for everything

In the end times, there will likely be a ‘worldwide crisis’ that sees the rise of a ‘Chosen One’ who swoops in to save the day-, and people will gladly give up their rights in order to have big government take care o them during the crisis when people are severely hurting, financially drained, and desperate for help-

Keep your eye on Cuomo- I really doubt he’s ‘The Chosen One’- but watch how people glom onto him and swoon over him as ALL the networks fawn over him during this pandemic- We’ll see if he runs for president- but just notice how the masses get mesmerized over someone like him- (and how these same masses absolutely hate president Trump who is actually working hard behind the scene to make this country great again)- in the end times, lies will be accepted as truth, truth will be declared hate speech- (It’s now ‘hateful’ to suggest that there are only 2 actual biological sexes- for just one example)

“ There was a time when Americans saw death as preferable to these circumstances. Today, instead of complacently accepting the government's shackles, we must stand up and demand, as the rightful sovereigns of our states and nation, that our government let us get back to our lives and livelihoods. This insanity cannot be allowed to go on much longer, and if we lack the will to stand up against these open attacks on our liberty, we risk losing everything that once made America the land of the free.”

I have been posting these very sentiments since the start of these blanket closures and shelter in place orders and I have to tell you I have had virtually no one on free republic agree with me. I have been told over and over by many freepers how states and governors have these vittually unlimited powers during a national emergency ( and its these same entities that can just declare an emergency and nullify the bill of rights), I have even been told lethal force can be used if we dont comply.

I’m perplexed as to exactly why most of the people on freerepublic pretend to support individual liberty and pretend to understand the Bill Of Rights yet argue to no end to somehow justify what is happening.

We are having difficulty because we have failed to have a “National Discussioin” on “The Value of Life”. For some life is a despised curse that abortion can cure. For some life is precious beyond any price. We couldn’t begin to agree on how to respond to this crisis with that much variance in “Our American Values”.
