Thanks for the link. But, isn't he comparing CDC estimated flu rates to confirmed COVID-19 rates?

Whatever the case, apparently most of you here believe COVID-19 isn't serious. I think it is serious. But, at least we do agree that we should be concerned about the Dems trying to take advantage of the situation.

No, he’s comparing confirmed deaths / confirmed hospitalizations for both.

That means 20% do need medical help. That's the problem.

So we focus on that class, mainly the aged (I am almost 68) and infirm and do the mask route for the rest as the go about their business, in the interest of the long term.

On the other hand, this crisis bolsters Trump's arguments for protected borders and bringing manufacturing back to the U.S., for example.

Consider the paradox. Conservative argue for border restrictions due to criminals and un vetted persons causing bodily harm, spreading disease and or burdening the system, while liberals espouse open borders, and protest the separation of children from parents who are caught illegally entering the country, and attack the President for now helping the most vulnerable.

But liberals do not favor allowing open "freedom of entry" into society of the most vulnerable if "border control" wants to kill them, that is via abortion, and justify such "terminations" by arguing such would be an unnecessary and unwelcome burden.

And when Americans foreigners do present a danger to society (if infected with a disease an est. 80% recover from without medical help) then they quarantine households, shutdown entire cities.

National healthcare is not the answer.

That was mean to be sarcasm.

He wrote: "Last year flu, CDC: 490,600 hospitalizations and 34,200 deaths."

And he linked to a source entitled, "Estimated Influenza Illnesses, Medical visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths in the United States — 2018–2019 influenza season"

Then he noted COVID-19 numbers that matched the confirmed numbers.

Democrats are hypocrites. We agree on that point.

So we focus on that class, mainly the aged (I am almost 68) and infirm and do the mask route for the rest as the go about their business, in the interest of the long term.

People in their 40's and 50's are dying, too. In any case, whatever the country decides to do, I'm staying home (as long as possible).

Trump is saying we'll see where we stand in another week or so. Maybe then the states will ease up on their lockdowns.

Supposedly we can catch it a second time. I don’t know. But... stay well and may God bless!

Again, the very bad outcomes are fairly well known (deaths + hospitalizations) - it’s the # of non bad (mild and completely assymptomatic) outcomes they don’t know very well simply because most never are treated or tested

Of course, there are COVID-19 cases that have not been and never will be confirmed.

The CDC will probably estimate the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths later, just as it estimates the flu cases and deaths.

The actual number of confirmed deaths due to the flu is far, far lower than the CDC’s estimate.

Again, that is also true of COVID-19. In both cases, those who die from the flu or COVID-19 have multiple comorbidities, and are elderly. You want to downplay the risk of the flu, but increase the risk of COVID-19, despite the fact we know that early #s from new viruses are ALWAYS overstated. Remember when they thought swine flu was 5% chance of death, then 1% and finally at 0.02% after they did anti-body testing?

The CDC should immediately suspend any and all seasonal flue vaccines. The vaccine is altering the seasonal flu mortality rate as it prevents some from contracting it and lessens the severity of some who do. Preventing some deaths.

It’s the only was we can truly get a more accurate comparison of seasonal flu vs CV19.

No, Flubros want to overplay the risk of the flu and downplay the risk of COVID-19.

Flubros keep bringing up CDC's overblown ESTIMATED number of deaths from flu and comparing it to the CONFIRMED number of deaths (so far) from COVID-19.

But, go ahead and believe whatever you want to believe. Neither of us is going to change each other's opinion.

Facts. I know we shouldn’t confuse the nation with facts but here it is. We now have a country shut down over a media generated epidemic but where was the panic over the below.

Fed up with d’rats and their media arm causing this

LOL The media/CDC/WHO overhypes the death rate for COVID19 by 100x more than the flu! Yes, I agree the flu risk is overstated by probably as much at 50-100%. However, I think the COVID risk is probably overstated by as much as 5,000%, just like with Swine Flu, which originally was well over 1% and ultimately was estimated at 0.02% after they did ANTIBODY tests on the BACK END. Vast majority of people that got it had mild or assymptomic cases. The same will be true here.

Yes, I agree the flu risk is overstated by probably as much at 50-100%.

By 50-100% ? LOL. Again, as discussed previously, typically less than 500 death certificates each year list flu as the reason, and even then, for most of those deaths, the flu was never even confirmed. If the CDC is estimating 80,000 flu deaths in a year, they're exaggerating by 16,000%.

You want to look at where the government is lying to us? There it is, right there, in the flu statistics.

But, you Flubros keep bringing up the CDC's overblown flu estimates and comparing those numbers to confirmed numbers of COVID-19 deaths (593 confirmed deaths in the U.S. so far within a period of weeks, not months).

Oh, it’s just a coincidence that most people who get pneumonia had a bad flu right before/during. I don’t think you realize the death calculation error is the same. If they are dying with COVID-19, they are counting it as a death. Unless they are doing autopsies, which they aren’t, they are making educated guesses. But put your head in the sand one way and not the other, especially when TPTB have incentive to downplay risk of flu and up-play risk of COVID.

TPTB make big bux off of the flu vaccine.

If people were to realize that the ‘flu death’ number was cooked to the extreme they’d stop getting them every year.

Someone’s investments wouldn’t be as profitable.

Nah, they don’t make much on the flu vaccine at $10-30/ vaccine, especially with all the labor. The real expensive medical care and pharmaceuticals is end of life stuff...that is where the big money is these days - 50% of all medical expenses are in the last 6 months of ones life in the US.
