Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) ripped Democrats for blocking a mammoth stimulus package from advancing on Sunday, accusing them of a "spectacle" and "playing games" with the economy.
"I want everybody to fully understand if we aren't able to act tomorrow, it will because of our colleagues on the other side continuing to dither when the country expects us to come together and address this problem," he said from the Senate floor.
McConnell noted that during the vote the stock futures dropped five percent, adding that "the notion that we have time to play games here with the American economy and the American people is utterly absurd."
Democrats blocked the Senate from advancing a "shell" bill, which the mammoth stimulus legislation was expected to be swapped into, arguing that there were a host of unresolved issues that made it a "non-starter" for Senate Democrats.
"So who is being partisan? He knows darn well that for this bill to pass, it needs both Democratic and Republican support," Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said.
McConnell, at Schumer's request delayed the procedural vote, where three-fifths support was needed. But Schumer said the legislation "has not improved enough in the past three hours to earn the necessary votes to proceed."
"The bill can, and must, continue to improve. Were closer than weve been at any time over the past forty-eight hours to an agreement, but there are still too many problems in the proposed legislation," Schumer said.
A senior Democratic aide pointed out nine "major problems" with the Senate bill as drafted, and noted that it was "not an exhaustive list."

“Well have this cloture vote again at some point of my choosing, and hopefully some adults will show up on the other side of the room and understand the gravity of the situation...”
Go get ‘em, Yurtle!
Democrats are Democrats first.
Being an American is way down on their list.
It was the Democrats who rammed this overpriced bill through the House, now they are stalling in the Senate? What’s going on here?
Just this once. After this you can go back to business as usual.
DEMs are doing the prudent thing, holding out for money to buy votes. This is democracy in action. This is what universal suffrage does.
The three most important things to RATS: control, power, and taxation, not necessarily in that order.
The Rats are for themselves and not the American people and this country.
Start voting now! Make the Democrats go on record. Make them vote no, and own the shutdown.
Put the pressure on them.
Maybe they are waiting for more Republicans to get the virus or isolate.
Dont forget abortion
“McConnell noted that during the vote the stock futures dropped five percent”
To the delight of Schmukie and Nancy. Mitch better get a clue. He needs allow remote voting and suspend the filibuster. What is this if it fails it will be the Democrats fault BS? Get some stones Mitch don’t let them get away with it.
Hi Cboldt -
So I read elsewhere that Sen. Paul announced he had the virus, and Sens. Lee and Romney have isolated themselves because of contact with Paul. So, there will need to be at least 10 Democrats cross the aisle to pass any legislation.
Personally, I have mixed emotions about this.

That would be my guess. Why aren’t the members if the House getting ill? Did China give them the vaccine?
Democrats trying to buy votes with our great-grandchildren’s tax money. Every Democrat running for office should be voted out in Nov.
Get all the quarantined Republicans to come vote in Hazmat suits.
They are going to have to allow remote voting. Of course there is a rat Judge just waiting to block it.
I asked my husband why aren’t the democrats getting it and he said they most likely have it too but just are not saying so.
After 9-11 the politics ended for a while as Americans all came together. This virus even though they are saying we are all going to die the politics are not ending but getting worse which makes me think that it is being overblown a bit. The actions of some politicians don’t match what we are being told.
