NYC Mayor: If Trump doesn't act, 'people will die who could have lived otherwise'
NBC "News" ^ | March 22, 2020 | By Ben Kamisar

Posted on 03/22/2020 8:56:02 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

WASHINGTON - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday sharply criticized President Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic, arguing that the federal government has not done enough to ramp up production of life-saving medical supplies like masks and ventilators and asking the president to deploy the military across the country.

“The president of the United States is from New York City and he will not lift a finger to help his hometown, and I don’t get it," de Blasio said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

"I don’t get it. Right now, I have asked repeatedly for the military to be mobilized, for the Defense Production Act to be used to its fullest to get us things like ventilators, so people can live who would die otherwise," he continued. “If the president doesn’t act, people will die who could have lived otherwise - senior citizens, folks who are members of families.”

“Why are they at their bases? Why are they not being allowed to serve? I guarantee you they are ready to serve, but the president has to give the order,” he said.

The comments sparked a back-and-forth with Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland, a Republican, who said that looking backward is not productive.

“I don’t think just talking about what was done wrong yesterday or last week or last year is really that helpful in the discussion,” Hogan said.

“We are getting some progress. Now, it’s not nearly enough, it’s not fast enough, we’re way behind the curve,” he said, adding that the unified effort is making progress on getting respirators, masks and tests.

“It’s not a perfect situation. It’s going to take the federal, state and local governments all stepping up and doing whatever it takes regardless of who is supposed to do what,” he added.

This guy has more resources available to him than the federal government has in the north east. He has the largest group of police officers. He has world renowned hospitals and tons of social services everywhere. But he does not seem to be able to make them do anything. Because he is hated by his own city. He has tens of thousands of empty hotel rooms. He can turn some of them into hospitals. He has a multitude of city workers who can do whatever is needed. He has a state with a national guard.

Somebody must have voted for him.

Honestly, the easiest thing in the world is to blame this on Trump and tie this and the economy to him.

>>for the Defense Production Act to be used to its fullest to get us things like ventilators, so people can live who would die otherwise,”<<

Strange Deblasio doesn’t have any harsh words for his Governor Cuomo, who could have prevented this years ago...

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/03/18/new_yorks_ventilator_rationing_plan_142685.html#!

>>Cuomo could have purchased the additional 16,000 needed ventilators for $36,000 apiece or a total of $576 million in 2015. It’s a lot of money but less than the $750 million he threw away on a boondoggle “Buffalo Billion” solar panel factory. When it comes to state budget priorities, spending half a percent of the budget on ventilators is a no brainer.<<

Don’t be fooled by Cuomo. It isn’t a coincidence that nearly all the states shutting down have Democrat governors. They are politicizing this, it’s just a more subtle approach. Just watch what they are doing: gun bans, allowing elective abortions when all other elective surgeries are canceled, emptying the jails. How do any of these measures protect people from the virus?
I lived in NYC all my life until I moved out a few years ago. Cuomo is a snake in plain sight.

DeBlobbio is desperate. He's got nowhere to go. He's term-limited as Mayor.

Even worse, he got barely 10 people out to hear him blather as a prez candidate.

Nipping at Trump's ankles like a pesky puppy wont do it.
