Rep. DeSaulnier in critical condition due to pneumonia (D-Calif.)
The Hill ^ | 03 21 2020 | J. Edward Moreno

Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Calif.) is in critical condition due to complications of a non-COVID-19 related pneumonia after fracturing a rib Friday.

He was admitted to a Washington, D.C., hospital where he appeared to be in stable condition. Physicians determined he was negative for the coronavirus.

However, a statement later tweeted from the congressman's Twitter account to his followers revealed that his health had taken a turn for the worse.

“Unfortunately, congressman DeSaulinier’s condition has deteriorated and he is in critical condition,” a statement posted on the congressman’s Twitter account Saturday read.

The text is a bit confusing about the timeline of afflictions.

Fracturing a rib can give you pneumonia?

Maybe punctured a lung?

Maybe the radiograph of the ribs revealed an existing pneumonia.... sort of like how the radiograph taken of Ruth Ginsberg’s broken rib(s) revealed her lung cancer.

He underwent chemo in 2016 for leukemia... which lowered his immunity. Then caught an infection which led to p eumonia

I was going to say it might be the other way around. His pneumonia led to a fall which broke a rib. I don’t think the story was keen on that.

I’m guessing the broken rib punctured the lung.

1. Fracturing a rib can give someone a pulmonary contusion, which could look like a pneumonia on an X-ray.

2. If he was splinting after fracturing the rib (not taking deep enough breaths because it hurt), he could develop pneumonia from that.

When you bust a rib, you resist deep breaths and you don’t clear your lungs.

Regardless as to how his condition occurred, or his party affiliation, prayers up for a speedy recovery for Mark DeSaulnier.

If you develop shallow breathing after breaking or fracturing a rib it complicates your ability to breathe deeply or cough expelling mucous in the lungs and can result in infection...

I know..

Pull the plug.

That hospital bed and ventilator is needed for a real patient.
