Delaware shutters beaches, [Gov.] Carney to close non-essential business early next week

With 45 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 in Delaware, Governor John Carney is ordering everyone off the beach and will move to ban non-essential business early next week.

In a third modification to his State of Emergency Saturday around lunchtime, Carney announced he's prohibiting public access to Delaware's beaches except for exercise or dog walking on beaches, where that's permitted. Carney hinted about closing the beaches in remarks made on WDEL Friday.

The beach ban goes into effect at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020. The restrictions are in place until May 15, 2020, or until the public threat of COVID-19 is eliminated.

"We need everyone to take this situation seriously," he said. "We saw too many people on the beaches yesterday, and we weren't seeing the kind of social distancing that we need in order to slow the spread of coronavirus."

This hits home to me more than most COVID-19 stories because I vacationed many times at Dewey Beach, Indian River, Bethany Beach, and Ocean City, MD.

Speaking of Bethany, that town has gone the beach ban one step further and barriaded its boardwalk.

“You should go outside and get exercise. But don’t do it at the beach or on a golf course. We can’t let people have TOO much fun if we make it a crime for them to go to work.”

Who are these assholes who think they can decide what businesses are “non-essential?”

The ones that some of us didn't really pay attention to at election time because we forgot that the Governor has more control over day to day life than the POTUS.

Gubernatorial elections are important--WAKE UP!

Strolling in the ocean air would be one of the best places to go to get out of the shutdown cities. Banning people from them is just stupid.

Maryland shut down hiking trails and fishing at three reservoir areas.

I really don’t understand that one. Millions have been laid off work. X amount of those are struggling to eat in the early days of this.

Fishing is free food and they make fishing illegal.

If he shuts down the golf courses, I will be pissed. They are a good source of exercise and fresh air and one of the few fun things left to do. Around here they have taken all the rakes out of the traps and raised the cups above ground so the ball does mot go in. You do not have to touch the pins. And one person per cart if you elect to use one. Pissed, I tell you.

As much as I despise Gov. Carney, I support this decision.

Yesterday the beach towns were packed! I mean packed!!!
It looked like July 4th weekend down there. From what I could discern from my friends who live down there, I’m about an hour north, the vast majority of folks were from out of state.

BTW the general population who lives down there are older, many are retirees.

Baltimore City did. The city owns the reservoirs and surrounding lands. The DPW claims it did so to reallocate its workers there to other tasks. I went out on the state owned NCR trail today. Nice day for a walk.

Delaware has Biden, Coons, Carper and really stupid local officials.

There goes our family trip to Rehobeth. Oh wait, one of my in-laws has a house there and private access to the beach.
FU Delaware losers (officials).

Dullardwarians

The video of little man Coons laughing while Creepy Joe is groping his female relative (presumably daughter) at the Senate swearing in ceremony is revolting.
