Stanch the flow of money to unworthy and unnecessary causes
Freerepublic ^ | March 21, 2020 | All of us

Too much taxpayer money is being wasted on unworthy and unnecessary causes and organizations which bring little or no benefit to the American people. What's more, once the funding has left the Treasury, there is little accountability for how it is spent, leaving the door wide open for fraud and corruption.

The current crisis gives us a great opportunity to stanch the flow of funding to causes, groups, and organizations that at best are useless to the American public, and at worst are bringing irreparable harm to our society and our economy.

Let us put an end to taxpayer funding of these unworthy causes, so that we will have more money available for dealing with real issues that Americans have to deal with on a daily basis, like jobs, security, health care, and the economy.

Here's the beginning of a list of groups and causes whose taxpayer funding needs to be stopped, so that there is enough for real people with real issues and real lives.

1. Planned Parenthood

2. Universities and institutions that spew Leftist propaganda in lieu of education

3. Frivolous "academic" studies and nonsense research

4.

5.

Please add to the list.

If the government stops spending on these things, even temporarily, there will be more money to go around to help everyday Americans dealing with the crisis.

Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.

So, are you now going to tell me somehow these are “worthy” or “necessary” causes?

This is the time to pluck the federal goose big time.

Stand back and be amazed at the waste.

Children on welfare don’t need $500 in spending money, but mommy and eventually the Chinese will get the money.

Um, because I paid into these programs for 40+ years and am expecting something in return?

There was a study as to whether female Narwhales were attracted to male mates due to horn size. This falls into the ‘teaching shrimp to run on treadmill’ waste. All these grants need a second review as to whether it is appropriate for federal funds.

4. All celebrity/ politicians’-foundations established as tax shelters that have
shown little benefit in return for their tax breaks. (Ex. Clinton Foundation)

Part of my career in fed government was administration of law enforcement grants to state and local governments. There was a heavy emphasis on what we now call “social justice” type bull shit. Grantees were loaded with filthy criminal loving/anti-police types. By and large an employment engine for liberal democrats. To the extent the money went to hardware, police training, prison construction etc. it was ok but there was so much squandered it was disgraceful. Other federal grant programs were/are far worse. IMHO.

You can stream The Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice for free on Tubi.
Only about 3 or 4 minutes of adverts per show.

There is going to be nothing but trouble/problems from the money they are going to pour out of the treasury to try to help businesses and out of work employees. There won’t be anyone paying attention to the store (no pun intended) and it will be taken advantage of in a manner never seen even in welfare fraud. People like AOC have to love this idea. It can’t go well no matter how well intentioned. Once started as a government solution/program it will never go away.

I have & continue to pay into Medicare & contributed to Social Security for approximately 60 yrs., so I would suppose I have some right to think they’re a worthy cause. I am drawing Soc. Sec. now & it is my only source of income. Finding a job at my age that pays even a living would be virtually impossible & I am in good health. So, I can’t say if Soc. Sec. is “worthy” or not, but it sure seems necessary, especially in comparison to some of the various foreign aid programs.

As opposed to just letting you keep the money in the first place and letting you decide how to invest it?

You asked for any unworthy or unnecessary program and I gave three of them to you. You did not ask if you should get your money back from those unworthy or unnecessary programs that you already paid into. I have no problem with giving you your money back. But you also paid into all of the other unnecessary and unworthy programs being listed in the responses to include the three programs you listed in your original post. Do you want your money back from those programs too? I trust the answer is yes but are you willing to perpetuate theses programs, like you are willing to perpetuate the three I gave you, if the promise from government was to give you your money back with interest in the future? See...that is the problem.

With respect to Social Security for example, the trust fund was gutted by Congress to pay for all the other unnecessary and unworthy programs that you are asking people to list in this post. In short, your money is gone but it seems from your response that you are Ok in perpetuating the three “pyramid schemes” I gave you if you have a chance to get your money back. This is why the estimate for unfunded mandates created by Congress and signed by previous Presidents (including the current President) is north of $100 trillion.

And this is your government at work. “It” makes promises that other people in the future have to keep.

It is time to kill all of the programs not just the ones you want killed because all of us have paid into all of them.
