As many as 70,000 Americans could be confirmed as infected with coronavirus by the end of next week, marking a “pretty dramatic” increase in the number of confirmed cases, the director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins, told his employees in an agency-wide conference call on Friday.

Sure. No reason to panic. Just 70K people with a highly contagious disease out in the open.
And how many HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS already have had it and gotten over it?

No no - better keep you fearful and under house arrest and compliant while the smart people force you how to behave.
We're right at 20,000 cases in the U. S. now, and if these levels
of increases continue, we'll have a lot more than 70,000 by the
end of next week.
We have approximately 4.252% of the world's populace.
Right now we have 7.20% of all declared cases, and 10.93% of all
active cases.
I hope this shelter in place tactic puts us on the road to getting
this under control.
Looking at those increases in the last three days, keep this in mind.
If we increase our numbers by an average of 40% each day through
next Friday, we'll be in the ballpark of 210,000 cases.
This is what it looks like when a disease like this or the flu infects
millions.
I hope it doesn't come to that.

Not quantifiable. We only have a few clusters with large numbers of infected at the moment. If new clusters start popping up, Italy might start to look like a success story.

Exactly - so suddenly quantifying 70,000 cases without testing a good chunk of the populace that LIKELY already has it is fear mongering and panic inducing and irresponsible.
Catastrophism alert
Experts looked at my kids growth rate and predicted she would be 12 feet tall.
I said that’s unlikely.
They claimed I didn’t understand extrapolation and exponential growth.
Certainly food for thought there.
There are things we can do to defeat this disease, and I think we're
well on our way to some reasoned counter measures.
Lets hope they pan out.
Get more prepared on Sunday, just in case Monday is crazy. Prepared means, ferals might go crazy looting and creating mayhem if a national lockdown happens.
That 40% figure should not hold up, but it's has been for a few days now.
I do think we blow through that 70,000 figure, but I'm not sold on
that 210,000 figure.
70 thousand is nothing and look at all the freedoms we have lost and how our leaders have destroyed the economy
agree-the fact is here are probably over 100,000 with it now-tests just confirm that, and the fatality rate is dropping as mild cases are captured. Yes it will increase but we need to find out the true mortality rate when every case is capture. probably own’t as many are mild. We are in the hypochondriac phase now where with the constant media pushing this we will all think with every every sneeze that we have it.
BTW: the media is the one business thriving now without any risk
