One day after the coronavirus was declared a pandemic, March Madness was canceled, spring training baseball got shut out and Disney World announced it would close.
This social distancing was meant to separate people and stem the spread of the highly contagious virus. The United States had identified more than 1,000 cases of coronavirus. The national death toll stood at 41.
That same day — March 12, last Thursday — more than 2,400 people poured into Charleston and boarded the Carnival Sunshine for a four-day trip to the Bahamas. Which, as anyone who’s been on a cruise knows, is the exact opposite of social distancing.

That was over a week ago.
Maybe that was not quite so bad. It is hard for me to replay the time thing. I can’t quite recall which state of panic we were in last Thursday week.

1. They all want to be there.
2. Nobody is being exposed to a viral infection who DOESN'T want to be exposed.
3. They're sailing out of U.S. territorial waters, so who gives a sh!t what any government official in the U.S. thinks?
Interestingly, I would have expected to find 100% infection rates among the passengers on that cruise ship that was under quarantine a few weeks ago. Astonishingly (to me), the infection rate was nowhere near 100%.
It was a hoax back then.
In fairness to Carnival....they are offering their eligible ships to be used as hospital ships for the duration of the crisis.
From what I’ve heard, carnival is the only line to have no infections.
Business risked the entire American manufacturing industry for profit. What is this problem to them?
Until we’re all exposed it it, it’s not going to go away. Hydrate, take your Vitamin C ,wash your hands, protect the elderly...and Carry On
Yeah, right! I want to go to a hospital which has been a virus incubator for the past week.
And the government is going to bail out the cruise ship industry, which is not even based in the US!
What part of “eligible” don’t you understand.
Did you see what happened on the cruise ship out of Japan? Had one person on this Carnival cruise ship been infected, there could be that 300 out of the 2400 passengers depart the ship infected. How would anyone know? That is, if it is infectious as they say it is. Now, they are requiring the 1000 crew to remain on board. Can you not see this as a risky activity?
Perhaps cruise lines can offer quarantine cruises?
Going to or from Asia or Europe?
Make it a two week cruise, and count that as the quarantine!
Something like this might save the cruise industry.

I don’t know about the others, but I believe the Carnival lines are based out of Santa Clarita, CA. The ships themselves are registered elsewhere, but the industry/HQ is American.
But I doubt if the cruise industry will be bailed out. It isn’t essential, and the majority of employees are not American.

The test kits got delivered to the wrong address.
Hey — Carnival is the party ship. You can’t go there if you’re over 50 ! So all these are carriers that get off the ship, very few symptoms.
