To fight the coronavirus, President Donald Trump is adopting the audacity of false hope.
For the past two days, Trump has said he is dispensing "game changer" breakthroughs on treatments and a wartime-style effort to mass produce medical supplies that appear as rays of light amid America's darkening battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
His eagerness for remedies no doubt reflects a sincere desire to deliver Americans from the nightmare of lockdowns, fear for loved ones and atmosphere of national trauma.
But it is also becoming clear that the President's rhetoric is part of an emerging political strategy. He can't hold the campaign rallies that are his political lifeblood any more -- so he's just moved them into the White House briefing room.
Big footing Vice President Mike Pence's sober, informative task force briefings, Trump exaggerates facts, bashes China, blames the Obama administration, lauds his once soaring economy and baits reporters while shoveling any blame away from himself.
As the pandemic spreads like quicksilver across the US and questions mount about the federal government's response amid chronic shortages in hospitals, the White House seems to be trying to get everyone to look the other way.
It's holding out the promise of hope and optimism to shift attention from the reality of alarming rises in infections, a building economic crisis, a shortage of ventilators, the federal government's botched coronavirus testing roll-out, and revelations that doctors were told to use bandanas as masks.

I agree. Disgusting.
But the inputs we got from Trump and the FDA guy would confuse anybody. Trump appeared to me to exaggerate the availability of the malaria drug in question: Chloroquine. He made it sound like it will be available to all of us soon.
There is a little truth to that claim according to the NY doctor who was on Laura Ingraham last night. He claims the physicians treating the Coronavirus are routinely prescribing Chloroquine and with good results. It is an FDA approved drug and they are prescribing it.
So Trump gets a point for that.
But the FDA guy said no, there has to be a trial first. That was clearly intended to clarify Trump’s comment. Although I’m sure there will be a trial it seems clear that Chloroquine can be used right now and it effective.
So where is the truth? Somewhere in between Trump and the FDA. It is not clear how soon the drug can be legally used as a preventative and how fast the supply can be ramped up. That’s what we need to know.
I give Trump a B+. The FDA guy gets a straight C.

Bundled cable and satellite TV packages...CNN/MSNBC, etc. get a cut of all that revenue. No ratings needed for ad revenue, because ads not needed. They used to have ad revenue back in the Ted Turner days.
I guess the media would have a problem with “we have nothing to fear, but fear itself” from FDR?
A quick search shows this clown is a White House Reporter. He is nothing but a biased clown with no interest of being impartial, a political hack. He should have his credentials pulled.
Short term tactic by stupid people. It plays into President Trumps strategic political advantage.
We are going to see a definite rise in Corona virus cases but the reality is not going to be anything like the CNN fear mongers are making it out to be.
They are actually helping President Trump while destroying their credibility in the process.

My impression was the FDA guy was talking about the availability of a vaccine.
President Trump was talking about Chloroquine.
