Why would anyone attempt to provide hope to a people in dark times, particularly a leader? To CNN, it's better that we are hopeless, and be told that we are so.

We want someone to point out that no matter how bad things suck now, we will get through it. Roosevelt, Ford, Reagan, Clinton, Obama, and now Trump all conveyed that message in some way, shape or form. It’s what we demand of leaders in a crisis.

Trying to dissuade you from having hope so chance of panic is enhanced. Problem with CNN is they have lost credibility, at least among rational people. At the same time, Pres. Trump has gained credibility, including from a large number who initially didn’t trust him.
Saying one thing at his daily news briefing and then having other members of his administration immediately contradicting what he just said is not providing hope. I've said for a while the Administration has to speak with one voice. If Trump wants to be it then his administration has to support him better and not constantly go out there and say that Trump was wrong.
Can’t wait for those airport contracts to expire and the CNN viewership falls to zero.
