Nearly every day for three weeks, Dr. Deborah Birx has stood next to next to Vice President Mike Pence as part of the White House's efforts to battle the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 100 Americans.
Though her name may have been largely unknown to most Americans before the COVID-19 outbreak, she's been working to fight the spread of communicable diseases on behalf of the U.S. government for well over three decades.
Birx, 63, a Pennsylvania native, brings a long military career and medical background in immunology to her new role.
In addition to being the White House coronavirus response coordinator, she is the U.S. global AIDS coordinator, chosen to serve in the position by President Barack Obama in 2014.
In that role, Birx oversee's the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, as well as U.S. involvement in the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
She began her career with the federal government in 1985 as a clinician in immunology, with a focus on HIV and AIDS vaccine research, at the Department of Defense. She was assistant chief of the Hospital Immunology Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before becoming director of the U.S. Military HIV Research Program at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research from 1996 to 2005.
From 2005 until 2014, Birx was the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Global HIV/AIDS. During that time, she received a lifetime achievement award from the African Society for Laboratory Medicine for her work at building local capacity and strengthening laboratory health services on the continent.
The White House said she has "developed and patented vaccines, including leading one of the most influential HIV vaccine trials in history."

Trump is winning over all of the squishy suburban moms as we speak. This crisis directly threatens their families. They have to ask themselves would they rather have Doddering Joe Biden at the helm? Especially when Democrat governors are praising Trump for doing a good job with this.

Don’t think so. She has been described as a retired army colonel. My guess is she really is a retired USPHS commissioned officer which uses Navy ranks and is recognized as a US Uniformed Service.

I like her style and way of explaining that everyone can understand.. As a bonus she has an amazing collection of scarfs and wears them beautifully.
Let's all remember this sentence. Just over 100 Americans have died in this epidemic as of March 19th. That is 0.00003% of Americans. The Trump administration has taken great care to do the right things, even given the tiny fraction of dead Americans, because the potential for death is so much greater.
When the liberals and their media lackeys complain, throw this right back in their farking faces. 0.00003% dead, and already the Trump admin stood up for WEEKS, while the liberal and mediot shite-heads merely complained. Are they stupid, or what?
She is good. I sent a note to Trump suggesting he keep Dr. Fauci off the stage since he is a sensationalist causing hysteria and panic.
She is absolutely the best spokesperson Trump has ever had. So smart, so concise, so believable.

I think she’s been the best commincator in all this: competent, factual, reassuring, likable, non political...I like her style on all fronts.;)
