If America is successful at fighting the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) within the next two weeks, the country could be through the "worst" part of the outbreak within six to eight weeks, Dr. Mehmet Oz said Wednesday.
Appearing on "Fox & Friends" with hosts Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade, Oz said that he was pretty confident in Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams' prediction that within 15 days Americans could potentially be over the hump.
"We've got 15 days of holding our breath," he said. "In two weeks we will know exactly how successful we are. We can begin to figure out which levers to modify to release the challenges that we've offered the American public and then about six to eight weeks till we're through the worst of it. I think that prediction is going to turn out to be accurate."
Oz said part of the problem was that, in some cities, doctors are having to take a bit of a "shotgun approach" because of limited access to testing.
"But, once you have testing which is what they did in South Korea and you aggressively take folks who are having issues and get them out of the main population, you suffocate this virus, this pandemic, very quickly," he explained. "That's how we can address the virus without suffocating the economy."

50 percent of folks here will say he’s wrong because it doesn’t meet their horrific end of days scenario :)
But common sense says he’s right.
Remember when we use to have that in this country? :)
I trust President Trump
I have a hard time paying attention to Dr. Oz. He’s about as reputable as Dr. Phil.
I’m sure Mohamed is right!
If so, WE HAVE PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP AND ALMIGHTY GOD TO THANK!
He “could potentially” be right.
If people stick in enough qualifiers, I’m more inclined to treat them seriously, because they may actually grasp their own limitations.
He probably is right that we are highly unlikely to know anything GOOD with certainty before about 15 more days, and at that point we may or may not be in a place to actually say something intelligent and positive.
On the other hand, we may in a week be well positioned to say this is going to be really bad in terms of health and/or the healthcare system.
Youre in Americas Wuhan now.
How is it there?
My stepson just left for NJ countryside to work from home.
I want to hear from an authority, like a groundhog.
Not until the black swan rises out of the pumpkin patch.
Hoping Dr Oz holds his breath for 15 days.
For the past month its been, in two weeks well know blah blah. Its a never ending tv drama.
Probably more right than all the panic mongers are - the drastic measure taken will have caused way more damage than the virus could have when all is said and done.
The great and powerful Oz?
This is the fake doctor that stupid Oprah brought to the masses!
No thanks, no sale...
I urge everyone to see what happened with the cruise ship Diamond Princess.
The Diamond Princess was the perfect infectious disease incubator.
People shared the same food, the same water, the same air. Passenger and crew, even after quarantine, interacted with each other
3,711 passengers and crew were quarantined for 8 weeks. No one allowed in. No one allowed out....A perfect system.
What were the actual numbers.
A. 3,618 tested
B. 712 confirmed cases
C. 410 asymptomatic cases
D. 527 recovered cases (as of March 17)
E. 8 deaths
It seems as if COVID-19, Chinese Flu, is a serious disease and you should be careful, but it’s not some sort of Bubonic Plague.
He may be right about the time to resolution but the garbage about the testing delaying response is bunk for so many reasons.
Comparisons to Singapore are peas to watermelons:
What is feasible with a much smaller population(1/58th) centered in a physical area 7 million times smaller than the USA (7 x 10e5) cannot be replicated in the USA. We could never have that level of testing.
The importance of testing is to guide self isolation. Sick enough people get treated based on symptoms and are isolated in hospital. To this point treatment has been supportive since there was no RX. Hopefully the new therapies being rolled out will change that, especially the antimalarial drug approval for this use. Then it will be important to document the viral agent even as therapy is started while awaiting results.
Population Singapore 5.612 million (2017)
Population USA 327.2 million (2018)
Square Miles Singapore 278.6 mi²
Square Miles USA 3.797 million mi²
If we all literally hold our breath for 15 days, that would certainly solve the problem.
Dr. Oz, he’s brilliant!
