Preppers, once mocked, say they were ready for coronavirus crisis
Fox News ^ | March 19 2020 | David Aaro

Across the U.S., "preppers" have been planning for an event like the coronavirus for years.

Now, as a run-on toilet paper and necessary supplies have created vast lines and panic in our nation's supermarkets and stores, some are able to sit back and relax -- while being humble enough to avoid "I told you so."

“We're not laughing. We're not saying, ‘I told you so,' when people are out there fighting over toilet paper and hand sanitizers,” said Ohio resident Paul Buescher.

Packaged lettuce should never be bought for 3 reasons:

1. e-coli
b. listeria
3. salmonella

The reaction this successful FF has evoked suggests there will be more to follow, which is a very sobering thought indeed. Hindsight is 20-20 and that is why we should not have shut the entire economy down but identified the categories of individuals that needed special medical care to survive and concentrated our resources on that population. Thus, our economy would not be in collapse as it is today. If the figures are right, the Wahun virus is no worse than the flu for 80% of the population.

Good time to lose all that extra weight. Less food...less t.p needed. Less out of control diabetes...less obesity related diseases...
Some obscure benefits from this plague...
Less traffic.
Delayed tax issues
Less time spent on superfluous issues
More time bonding with family (could be a good thing)
Concern about existential issues and realities...I.e. Less atheists in toilet paper aisles
Finally get to use that stash of items you have stown away.
Less incessant commercials about buying things that no one has to sell.

House of Meow has been prepping since September 12, 2001. To prepare for this crisis, I did...nothing. Didn’t have to. Being fully stocked, knowing what I need and how long it will last is second nature now. My friends who always teased me are dining on crow. Fortunately they live in other states.

Unless you have a GI problem (the runs), maybe a roll per week, under normal circumstances. The China Wuhan Flu Virus is a respiratory problem, not a GI problem.

A guy I know that owns a range/gun store says he can’t get 9mm of any type from his distributors.

DCBryan1:".. Now they are scared. FIL still thinks people are over reacting and this will all blow over NEXT WEEK.
Its amazing how dense some people can be."

It's difficult to have most people overcoming "Normalcy Bias", it is implanted in their mind that everything will remain the same.
When the situation changes, they find it difficult to react, and begin to panic ( panic creates more emotional panic).
Panic feeds on panic and 'herd mentality'.
Unfortunately, that's part of the human condition.
That is why 'prepping' is a life-style choice, not an emotional panicked response.

Not too bright to show folks your stockpile and reveal your name and location.

Im glad my liberal non gun owning neighbors have finally started stockpiling apocalyptic food rations for me at their house for when it gets really bad.

Nice. LOL.

By far this was the easiest and most obvious emergency to prepare for. When the virus started to spread unabated across the Far East anyone with any sense would have known it was just a matter of time until it got here.

I went yesterday because it was pretty much my regularly scheduled trip that I take every couple of weeks. I actually walked the entire store to see what was there, and what was not. It was really interesting. Some isles looked like something from a pre-fall documentary of the soviet union. One of the things that's a regular part of my shopping list is apple juice. I normally buy about 2 gallons (4 64-oz bottles) because I really like it, and it keeps me from drinking as much soft drinks. Surprisingly, there was plenty. OTOH, the only paper good to be found were napkins. Good thing I'm still fairly stocked on that stuff, though I'll probably need to restock in about a month. Hopefully most of the wackiness will be over by then.

Now that they told the world who they are and where they are, I hope they have a strong plan (weapons, demo, guards, etc.) for keeping the zombies off their farm if things go into the fan. Why they want to bring publicity to themselves, I don't understand.

“Well I can one up you! LOL! I just bought land with a operational natural gas well....”

Do you mean the pump fuels on natural gas or the pipe out of the ground brings up natural gas ?

“I’ve never “carried” in my own house before. “

Time to start. Never know who’s at the door today or tomorrow.

I have the benefit of a driveway announcer and being off the road. Fenced pasture provides defined path to house. Don’t go to door or outside to check arrival(s) without a piece.

“... but green leafy vegetables and pineapples were there.”

I am worried about contamination from the humans that work the fields to fetch the produce and fruits.
