Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart tests positive for COVID-19

WASHINGTON D.C. – South Florida congressman Mario Diaz-Balart has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a release sent by his office, Diaz-Balart (FL-25) received word on Wednesday that a test he took over the weekend had come back positive.

He is the first member of the United State Congress to test positive for coronavirus.

Diaz-Balart began feeling symptoms of coronavirus on Saturday night, including fever and a headache.

He then decided to self-quarantine in Washington D.C., where he will remain.

“I want everyone to know that I am feeling much better,” Diaz-Balart said in a statement. "However, it is important that everyone take this extremely seriously and follow CDC guidelines in order to avoid getting sick and mitigate the spread of this virus. We must continue to work together to emerge stronger as a country during these trying times.”

Well, now it’s in Congress, so we will see how much they panic over themselves. A quarrantine of Congress would be a start. There’s a part of me that would like to see this several Congressmen get this and have it be shown to be nothing. Mike knock some sense into people. Anyway, hopemhe has a speedy recovery.

Thanks. 58 is young for this ailment, but there are always exceptions to any rule. Plus, he may have some underlying condition.

OK, I guess I’ve finally reached my breaking point. Seriously, give the naive “it’s just the flu” nonsense a rest. Just read that story that was linked a few posts above, and then tell me we’re overreacting. And that story is not an exception - similar stories are easy to find. Plus, the “it’s just killing a few old people” excuse is now falling apart, as more and more people of various ages suddenly find themselves in the same fight for their lives as the poor guy in the linked article. Notice, for instance, that he is 55, not 85.

I get it, we conservatives believe in individual liberty and self-reliance, and we rightfully oppose government encroachment on those liberties, and are therefore vigilant for any attempt to exploit a crisis to expand government power. I agree wholeheartedly with all of those goals, and fears.

However, sometimes there really is a monster under the bed, like this virus, and when that occurs we look like utter fools if we just scoff and laugh it off. When we act like that, we play right into the hands of the claims that libs make that we on the right are just rigid, anti-science, hicks.

To anyone still spouting the “just a flu” nonsense, do you really believe that EVERY SINGLE leader in the world, including people like Trump and Netanyahu, are just being taken in by a giant scam, and that there is no truth to anything the medical professionals are saying? Sorry, but to stake out that claim, you’ve got to be willingly blind.

That was my big clue a couple of weeks ago. When Japan shut down all schools that told me this is a big deal. Everyone knows how casual the Japanese are on schools and education. The Communist Chinese have let loose a very dangerous bug. When this is over, I hope they are held accountable.
