They can cover the landing strip at Kitty Hawk while sitting sipping coffee and eating donuts. The strip in Frisco doesn’t have the amenities, but then you’ve got a lot of walking ahead. I was wondering whether all of the charter boats would return or just stay south. The tuna might get a break this year.
This sounds suspiciously unconstitutional to me. Someone ought to challenge this in court.
Property owners, deliveries and contractors can come and go.
No Tourists.
Restaurants are closed anyway. No pass through to VA or Ocrakoke.
Maybe the outer banks doesn’t care if they are shut down but they dam well better not try it here in the keys. Whole different world. the park service and big liberal state and federal govt. have been running roughshod over the area for decades, those guys better stand up and fight.
If I lived there, I think I’d be feeling mighty twitchy right now.
Been there, done that.
Im sure it will happen again.
I believe this is the Outer Banks of NC. Theres no reason for anyone to go there who is just passing through,
There is no passing through. There are two roads into the county with one leading to the outer banks. The road along the outer banks is a dead end on both ends.
As to the back roads comment, I think the only land mass that could have a back road is a swamp.
Correction, there are three roads into the county and the top end of the OBX is one of them so not a dead end.
with no valid ID’s how are the illegals going to get to work?
Doesn’t seem like it would be any more effective since residents and a class of others can come and go.
Had to go onto Keesler AFB the other day and the gate guards aren’t handling IDs - they have you hold it out to be scanned...
To the north, Highway 12 ends in Corolla about 12 miles south of the VA border. There is no way anyone outside of the Currituck Banks in Currituck County will be getting into Dare County from the north direction either. They have a very effective blockade. I suppose boaters could manage to sneak in here and there but as a FR resident of Corolla NC said here, this was petitioned for by the full time residents. The people wanted this, it wasnt imposed upon them. So boaters sneaking in are likely to be unsuccessful too. The three airports are tiny and easily closed off, Pine Island, Kitty Hawk First Flight and Billy Mitchell.
Good post X but ironic you commenting on a county named after the first White person born in America
Are u part of the panic X?
Please tell me no youre not...
I think there are only three major ingress to Dare county aside back roads
But by water the access is infinite
I for one dont buy the panic but there is a part of me understanding they did this cause they could fairly easy
I’m not panicking but do feel a little uneasy about making what I guess is a joke. Sheltering in place for now.
You did well with that post.
Much of the world around us is closed were all pretty much quasi quarantined
Even Nashville is slowed down
I expect schools closed till news reports show a decline in confirmed cases
The main marinas with decent predictable channels that arent shoaled are easily monitored. The only remote boater access that would be in my opinion a weak point would be the canals in Carova up in the 4x4 area. 10 minutes over from Knotts Island by skiff. Very popular way around the logjam of vacationer traffic for beach house owners from VA Beach and points north. You dont want anything bigger than a skiff though, shallow draft a necessity. Then, theres getting anywhere once youre there, driving behind the dunes is touch and go without a lifted 4x4, massive swales that fill with water easily. Unlikely that non-residents would even know its there.
I was born in Goldsboro at Seymour Johnson 1957 and my ships used to dock At Morehead city bringing lumber from my Manaus Brazil but I am not familiar with the North Carolina coast I go to the gulf
So I will defer to your knowledge of course
What about the ferry from Cedar Island to Ocracoke?
Ocracoke is in Hyde County so theyre not closed off, but the ferry from there to Hatteras is likely monitored. No bridge, just ferry.
Well, well..... I thought Ocracoke was in Dare county too
