Pence urges construction companies to give coronavirus masks to hospitals

Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday urged construction companies to donate respiratory masks to hospitals and health centers as fears grow they will run out of essential medical equipment as the coronavirus infects more Americans.

“We would make one specific request, and that is we would urge construction companies to donate their inventory of N95 masks to your local hospital and forgo additional orders of those industrial masks,” Pence said at a White House briefing on the pandemic.

“Because of what the president asked to be included in legislation moving through the Congress today, those industrial masks that they use on construction sites are perfectly acceptable for health care workers to be protected from a respiratory disease,” he added.

Why don’t the hospitals buy their own masks?

They’re also good at protecting the lungs of workers at construction sites. Enough should be kept at the construction company sites so the workers are never without.

Smooth move moron. Sounds like he has never worked in a dust environment. He apparently thinks construction workers should just go ahead and croak.

I like how they did not capitalize the p in President but the c in Congress is.

I did not quite understand Fences quote maybe they cut it off that would be shocking. Maybe he is asking for the masks to be donated because there are none to be had. People are buying everything including masks maybe the only way they can get them is by donation from an industry that uses them.

Sounds like there is a shortage now. They should be asking all the people hoarding them to donate some of them before asking construction companies.

There’s a shortage of masks for vivid caregivers in hospitals. And you call Pence a moron for asking for donated masks. Jerk

What a shining example of how government screws up everything it touches. Every time the try to help one group, they solidly sodomize another.

I was in a Lowe's when the virus was mainly in China, but people in the US were just starting to buy out the masks, etc.

I asked a worker in the paint department if things had gotten crazy for them.

He mentioned that a Chinese man had come in earlier and bought everything they had - $600 worth.

I said that the man was probably sending them to China to help with their epidemic.

The worker said: "No, the man told me he was buying them to put on EBay and make a huge profit".

The convention is that “Congress” is capitalized because it is a proper noun referring to a governmental legislative body. You should capitalize President Donald Trump but not “the president held a press conference today.”

Eh bite me. I guess the construction guys running saws, installing fiberglass, cutting tile, cleaning out bullet traps, running blowers, blasting out coal rings in kilns, stripping out asbestos, bagging quicklime, all should just suck in those fumes... a little cystic fibrosis and mesothelioma ain’t so bad.

Or maybe they all get laid off for a few months and cant pay the rent and feed their kids.

It’s a dumb moronic move. Every -single- time government picks who to help, someone else is getting lined up for a good solid azz raping.

The Doctor may not have time to shop. Maybe the construction guy should donate everything in his pantry at home too.

The problem with having construction workers give up their masks is that those types of masks often just work against dust and not viruses.

The solution is to ask mask manufacturers to increase production. Or assist start-up companies in manufacturing with the government cutting through red tape.

However, the biggest problem is all the raw material needed to make masks. There just isn’t enough to go around the world.

Bad virtue signalling/guilt shaming move here.

Those construction workers will be hospital patients without those masks screening out fine particulates.

Besides masks don’t work, we’re told by the doctors, socwhy do they need them?

“The solution is to ask mask manufacturers to increase production. Or assist start-up companies in manufacturing with the government cutting through red tape.”

Yes, literally get-out-of-the-way. All of the barriers to being buried in these masks IS government. You want to start producing masks? FDA, HHS, IRS, CDC, DHS, the local, state and federal regulators all weigh in. And then congrats... you have now supplied something high risk to the medical field. Wonder what kind of lawsuits will be coming your way unless you have -perfectly- followed god only knows what certification standards? (Again, another blessing of government). Oh, and why else do we not have masks? Because the government actually PAID companies to move production to China).

And after ALL OF THAT, they have the sheer audacity to solve the problem THEY created by rolling in and asking someone else to GIVE them to the hospitals? (hospitals who apparently did not ever think an epidemic might hit and they should have a big supply of the most basic supply in the warehouse)

I did all that back in the late 70s and early 80s. Hell, add in bathing in MEK and freon. I'm still alive and healthy, if not a bit overweight.
