Australians are being ordered against travelling overseas as a blanket ban on indoor gatherings of more than 100 people was announced under new coronavirus measures this morning.

After declaring a human biosecurity emergency, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said states and territories would enforce the tough new restrictions with immediate effect and it could last for at least six months.

Took a long time for Australia to do that. Thought they would have done that sooner.

We have been doing travel bans since Jan, originally targeted to China, then other countries as it spread.

This is the first time that a world wide ‘do not travel’ advice has been implemented. Schools will remain open, at least for the short term.

Australia is heading into the autumn/winter flu season so the health system is going to get smashed pretty hard.

Where is the scientific data that a gathering of 100 is safe but the 101st person will make everyone break out in spots like the storied Dalmatians?

The CDC director today admitted that these numbers are just “guesstimates”.

Just pulling numbers from a hat, IMHO.

There isn’t. It’s just a number to limit the spread from larger gatherings.

Arbitrary and capricious.

The US CDC goes from 250 a week ago.

Divide by 5

US CDC then “recommends” 50 on March 13.

Divide by 5—again.

POTUS recommends 10 on March 16

And local authorities—with no science or data—give that the force of law.

Total Bravo Sierra.
