President Trump said authorities are discussing a national lockdown to slow the coronavirus but that it’s unlikely to happen.
“You can do a national lockdown. Hopefully we’re not going to need that,” Trump told reporters Tuesday at the White House.
“You know, it’s a very big step,” Trump said. “That’s a step that, I mean, in one sense would work. It’s a very big step. It is something we talk about but we haven’t decided to do that.”

he made a great point that liberals will hate- there are many areas in the nation (primarily red states) not effected, so why lock them down?
His whole ruckus with Andrew Cuomo was that Cuomo wanted all states treated exactly the same.
Trump rightly pushed back that they are NOT all the same.
Hopefully we won’t need to do that, Mr. President? You’d damn well better NOT do that.

I agree with you. I’ve seen talk of Trump declaring Martial Law. Why would he do so? I see no need for it.

another thing he did which liberals are going to hate was giving people credit for doing the right thing- liberals don’t believe people are smart enough to fend for themselves..well maybe the ones who vote liberal aren’t

I had a discussion with my kid sister earlier. Normally she and I do not discuss politics since she is an avowed liberal and I am not. However that said, she told me that she thinks that President Trump is doing ALL of the right things in this situation and has gained a ton of respect for him and his decision making. I was stunned!! Happy as well.

A lockdown would be the coup de gras to the economy. All this hoorah is, I believe due to the frantic reaction of China to the emergence of the virus which suggests strongly that it was an escaped lab product from a weapons lab. The Communists thought it was a much deadlier malady than it has turned out to be and thus the extreme reaction, If it were a naturally arising infection that had the same characteristics the Communists would have forced people to continue to work and simply shoveled the dead into the furnaces. China was worried about a nation wide catastrophe because they thought this was the killer virus they were trying to build and it got out, probably when the “scientists” and engineers sold used-up experimental subject animals into the food markets. Power corrupts, etc.
Your theory makes a lot of sense. Particularly when you consider that Obama basically wrote-off 17,000 deaths to H1N1 in exchange for keeping the economy moving on his watch.
Would be a very unwise decision.
I really cringe when I think what would be going on now if people like her were in the presidency. It’s real easy sitting on the sidelines and criticizing everything PDJT is doing. These same people that criticize do not have one solid suggestion and if they do it’s completely off the wall.
So do I. But put yourself in President Trump's shoes. If it is something their bioweapon lab fumbled, the President already knows it. The challenge then is to try to no panic the nation into a Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome response, but scare us just enough to limit the spread. At the same time, you don't want to totally crash the economy (see Mad Max) but buy some time to absolutely gather unassailable proof of the chicom's culpability while simultaneously reaching around for a stick to beat the chicom's brains in, just short of initiating a nuclear war.
This is where I think we are. And kudos to the President. His doubling down on calling it the "Chinese Virus" is a message to the chicom's. And to manufacturers who went all in on chinese slave labor.
We won't be exchanging nukes, but we will be disentangling economically. About damned time, too. And only President Trump has the cajones to make it happen. dopey joe doesn't stand a chance in November.
