The White House announced Tuesday that it wants to give Americans checks in order to combat the economic devastation many will feel amid the coronavirus outbreak.
We are looking at sending checks to Americans immediately, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said during a news conference at the White House on Tuesday.
Americans need cash now and the president wants to get cash now, Mnuchin said. And I mean now in the next two weeks.
President Donald Trump, who had initially floated a payroll tax holiday, said that he favored more immediate action that could inject cash into Americans pockets faster than waiting for the next payday.
I think we are going to do something that gets money to them as quickly as possible, Trump said. We will have a pretty good idea at the end of the day what we will be doing.

It didn’t save GWB, it won’t save Trump.
Wise decisions will save Trump
Heard on the Limbaugh show that Pence supposedly promisded checks of “over a Thousand dollars”
Didn’t the poorest recently receive their gigantic EITC checks? Surely they have something left after the newest I Phone and big screen TV to buy some toilet paper.
How about teaming up with businesses and compensation thru payroll. You stay on I pay half the feds pay half and you stay off the unemployment line and I get to keep you as an employee until this thing is over. Sending out cash to people how is that not going to work
Need based, or just throwing money out there?
It would be better if Trump did nothing. Trying to smooth out relatively small troubles will create bigger troubles down the road.
That’s why America has a $21 trillion national debt and $121 trillion unsupported pension debt, 70 years of trying to smooth out people’s lives.
Stupid idea. Use the money to help economic recovery after this is all over.
Sending checks to the public is stupid, especially now that the end of this disease is nowhere in sight. If you send them now, the folks will be demanding another one when this is all over.
Payroll tax holiday is the best stimulus and actually gives money to those that work and the employer. Unemployment to those who businesses were closed due to restrictions.
Preventative measures are de rigueur.
chloroquine may hold the magic to stop pretty much the spread of the coronavirus in its tracts.
How long before the Dims demand checks for illegals?
How many Vietnam vets could forget the anti-malaria pill (chloroquine) the company medic would hand out and make sure you took it back in the 60’s?
Woo Hoo!
Uncle Sugar gonna foot the bill for a bit of our next vacation!
Some people will be getting the dirty end of the stick and some assistance may be proper - especially as so many government edicts are coming down the pike, but they never target specific folks - just shotgun blast so even folks who are only being inconvenienced from the locusts emptying shelves of certain items will get paid...
Kind of like some years back when a frost took out some oranges in Fresno....whole orchards of healthy fruit trees and good fruit were left to rot because in order to get assistance, one had to leave perfectly good fruit on the trees to rot - instead of maybe only getting 10% (or some appropriate percentage) for damaged fruit and marketing the rest.
In the mean time all those people lose their cars, their apartments, and everything else. How many workers living paycheck to paycheck do you think are now out of work due to the government saying no bars and restaurants can be open for sit down.
If we get that check we will use it to evict our deadbeat tenant
Yes! My Mom remember those days in Germany.
“How many workers living paycheck to paycheck do you think are now out of work due to the government saying no bars and restaurants can be open for sit down.”
Good point. “living paycheck to paycheck” is the problem. Everyone should be able to ride out at least six months without a job because you can always lose a job.
The admin is dumping trillions on the Wall Street banksters. Reasonable that we’d get some cash, too. After all, we are the ones who will end up paying for the bailouts.
Silver is under $13 an ounce.
