Could the coronavirus fears be decreasing Memphis crime rates?
Fox13 Memphis ^ | March 13, 2020 | Tony Sloan

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — New data shows there’s been a decrease in violent crimes throughout the city of Memphis recently.

It’s not directly linked to fears of the coronavirus, but there may be some correlation.

FOX13’s Tony Sloan found out more details on these numbers.

The possibility is that the city could cut half the number of violent crimes that have happened since late last month compared to the month before.

... According to city data, in the two weeks since Feb. 28, there have been 243 violent crimes like assault, homicide, and robbery with still two weeks left to fully calculate the month.

To put that in perspective, Jan. 28 to Feb. 28, there were 611 violent crimes.

One thing I know for sure the unstable among us are certainly stirred up - there's been a jump in suicide threats and outright attempts around my area since this coronavirus biz hit high gear.

Long distance information, give me Memphis Tennessee
Help me find the party trying to get in touch with me
She could not leave her number, but I know who placed the call
‘Cause my uncle took the message and he wrote it on the wall

Or maybe there are just fewer people on the street to murder and assault and fewer business open to rob.

This is proof that criminals in Memphis take the virus more seriously than the criminals in Washington DC!

“ Could the coronavirus fears be decreasing Memphis crime rates?“

Sure! My guess is all the 80 year old lifetime smoker muggers and murderers have died by the dreaded plague, causing a drop in crime.

People are armed to the teeth and on edge these days. There might be a different reaction to lawlessness in this climate.

I’m sure crime, at least violent crime, will go down. You have to leave your house to do crime.

There is also the compounding dimension: more people being at home, who tend to be armed.

I also suspect, there is a large proportion of criminals who (being borderline Darwin Award recipients with which to begin) are afraid they'll catch Coronavirus if they come in contact with a potential victim who hasn't washed their hands. No...I am NOT kidding.

Media Democrats will write sad stories about the poor criminals who can no longer mug victims when the streets are empty or rob bankrupt stores. Pelosi will introduce a very expensive bill to help this important Democrat voting block.

One good thing is there probably won’t be any mass shootings because of no crowds. And no workplace shootings.

I dunno that artist. This was written and recorded by Chuck Berry. The big hit was by Johnny Rivers in the 1960s.

Might be in Memphis, but Los Angeles is dumping criminals from their jails. The benefit to me is that I haven't been getting any robocalls.
