Another 74 miles of 30-foot tall wall is set to be built on the Arizona-Mexico border, federal officials said on Monday.

Customs and Border Protection officials on Monday asked for public comment on new border wall projects in Cochise, Pima and Santa Cruz counties. These projects are in addition to 63 miles of wall being built in Cochise and Pima counties, as well as other wall projects in Yuma County.

The new wall projects announced Monday will consist of 30-foot tall steel poles, known as bollards, that are 6 inches in diameter, according to CBP. This is the same design used in the projects already underway.

Cochise County will see 32 miles of new construction, including 7 miles of new wall; the replacement of 24 miles of existing pedestrian fencing; and the replacement of 1 mile of secondary barrier. Construction is underway on nearly 20 miles of wall in Cochise County.

In Santa Cruz County, the new projects will run along 27 miles of the border, including 25 miles of new wall and the replacement of 2 miles of existing pedestrian and vehicle barriers. These would be the first projects for the Trump administration’s border wall in Santa Cruz County. The new projects will run along sections of the Coronado National Forest.

Pima County will see 15 miles of wall construction, including 8 miles of new wall and the replacement of 7 miles of pedestrian fence. The new projects will run along sections of the Coronado National Forest and the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge.

Public comment periods usually run about two months, and a contract follows a month or two later, more or less.

About 40 miles of this 74 will be where there was no barrier of any kind previously.

Here are some of the new bollards near Lukeville, still braced up while the concrete sets:

This additional 74 miles will take us over half of Arizona's total border with Mexico getting mighty Trump-style super Wall System (towering bollards with high speed, all weather access roads, lights, cameras, alarms and sensors). The entire Arizona border (including the Tohono O'Odham Reservation) is scheduled for persistent surveillance from the Integrated Fixed Tower Program this year, and multiple other technology Programs will be fielding there as well.

Good.

Now then.
From the first exploratory rallies in 2015 the border walls were supposed to be interspersed with immigration centers with processing, medical, and quarantine facilities.

We need that part of the plan right now, and making Democrats try to claim those medical and quarantine facilities were not part of the original plan (so Trump can pull out footage of his early rallies) would be a good way to pull off a political bitchslap.

Because of changed policies (no more “catch and release”, now it is “Wait in Mexico”) we no longer have a big load of detainees to house at the border. They are mostly processed and sent back to Mexico the same day.

Mexico is the quarantine facility.

Good news!!

Now, with Mexico threatening to close their northern border, maybe they’ll help install a few miles of additional ;-)

For now.
But we actually do want some emigration (just not the terrorists, cartel thugs, criminals, welfare bums, and vagrants we are getting now) and it is no longer practical to funnel most immigration through a single facility as we used to do with Ellis Island.

A prime example would be the spouses military personnel and petroleum workers often bring back after being overseas for six or ten years. When Carter was in office it often took as many as eight years to get your spouse cleared if you did it properly through the intended channels. Last I checked it still did.

We want to keep people out who are a danger or who are freeloaders.

Allowing proper channels to be run as poorly as they have been for the past four decades generates sympathy which would otherwise not be there for the illegals. Because look how shitty the legal way works even for the families of Americans.

You know that it has gotten that way by design, right?

Oh please, do not be so narrow. It does not take that long to bring in foreign spouses and will be taking less time now that system not over run.

We need immigrants who are legal and will assimilate.

Frankly, we need a moratorium on immigration with exception of true refugees. We are committing cultural suicide.

“You know that it has gotten that way by design, right?”

Oh definitely. Our immigration system and border security have been deliberately shaped by objectives that don’t serve the National interest, but rather niche or political interests - for over half a century.

It has been encouraging to see how comprehensively (and successfully) the Trump Administration has been correcting these policies, toward effective border security, and merit-based immigration.

OK - Here's how it should be done, IMHO:

Build the bollard wall 10 feet back of the US/Mexican border. When the court says the "immigrant" MUST be released into the US, put them on the Mexico side of the bollard wall - the 10' setback.

Voial! They are in the USA, and when their hearing comes up they just need to report to the court! I expect court appearance rates to be roughly equal to what they are now.

The Integrated Fixed Towers (IFT) from Elbit Systems (US subsidiary of Israel’s Elbit), which you linked, has been funded and contracted to complete coverage of the rest of Arizona’s border with Mexico - this year!

Elbit is also the manufacturer of the hottest Mobile Video Surveillance System (MVSS) that we are buying for Customs and Border Protection. Although video is in the name, it is also a multi-sensor suite of capabilities - long range day and night video, as well as radar, at a minimum; as well as powerful software to assist both operators and the folks back in the Command Post.

MVSS is going into full scale deployment, this year and next.

Great minds think alike.

What you describe, is essentially the “Wait in Mexico” (Migrant Protection Protocol) policy that the Trump Administration has put in place with Mexico.

Migrants are processed and released back into Mexico same day, with a case number. They can call back in a few months to see when their court date is scheduled, and are only allowed in then. The Court hearing is then conducted over VTC in a tent facility under Border Patrol control. Unsuccessful applicants (the great majority) are then escorted back into Mexico, or repatriated to their home (or sometimes a third) Country.

The “wall” has been totally tough to get, but it’s only a large speed bump.

Surveillance and interdiction are obviously needed going forward to actually control the Border.

Good to see that that is also being put in place.

If Trump gets 4 more years, we might actually get a relatively secure southern border.

Between 2008-2012, Tohono O’odham reservation had suffered the worst fiur year cycle ever, with frequent violent crime committed against them by drug runners and illegal gang members.

Quite a number of murdered “native Americans”, as well as rapes, unsolved kidnappings, dead or stolen cattle, stolen vehicles, burned homes, etc...

It became so bad by 2012, a U.S. Army Intel NCO buddy of mine, who sits near the top of the “T.O. Nation”, voted in favor of their implemented policy of shooting back! Includimg for cattle rustling!

So I asked him in 2014 how the policy was working out, and he said he was aware they had gotten into large scale gunfights with cartels on a number of occasions, deep into Arizona, and with the help of local sheriffs and some friendly border patrol, had actually eliminated most of the violent crimes committed directly against their people by the cartels. However, he said the cartels started going around their jurisdiction and more directly through the Tuscan and Mexicali routes.

Such surveillance systems have become absolutely necessary.
