It needs to be targeted to those that will be forced to stay home. But it is better than tax cuts for people who are not working. This is going to hurt the working poor heavily and we need to help them. The highly paid can afford to sit at home for a few weeks without pay. The working poor cant. Tax cuts are not the solution.
The elderly are being urged to shelter in place. An easy way to get that money in the hands of people who need it would be to include the $1000 in the next Social Security payment. It costs money to order food and medicine delivered. Utility bills are higher if you are staying home.
It would also help if Congress has IRS extend the April 15th filing deadline to a later date. People are having a harder time paying taxes if they are self employed or own a small business. My local government plans to extend business taxes 90 days, but forgot that the personal income tax form includes lines for the income to be included on personal business tax forms that may not be ready by April 15th.
