If COVID-19 (scientifically known as SARS-CoV-2) had started in Singapore or Taiwan, it would have traveled the world, infected billions of people, killed millions, and there wouldn't have been a single peep about it. "But it kills people," you cry. That is what cold and flu do, especially to the elderly and those lacking basic medicines. The world is panicking over a virus that causes mild colds in the vast majority of cases. Amid the panic, China is profiting as it buys up stocks at bargain-basement prices. Instead of engineering a pandemic, did China engineer pandemonium?
Before pandemonium, science. Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is characterized by the sudden (within a day or two) development of severe viral pneumonia with a thick mucus that is difficult to treat. SARS is strongly associated with two strains of coronavirus (SARS-CoV and now SARS-CoV-2). The pathogenesis of SARS is supposed to go something like this: Day 1: infection with SARS-CoV or SARS-CoV-2. Day 2: coughing and wheezing for breath. Day 3: hospitalization on a ventilator. Day 4: death. Over 99% of COVID-19 cases have experienced nothing even remotely similar to SARS. Is SARS-CoV-2 a bunch of hooey?
Medicine has a penchant for gaining fame by discovering new diseases by reclassifying old diseases. When infected with a cold-causing virus, you might get a fever, might have a runny nose, might cough, might have muscle aches, might have a sore throat, and you might get viral pneumonia. "SARS" is a name for a severe case of viral pneumonia caused by two specific cold viruses, but any cold virus could lead to a SARS-like viral pneumonia. Don't scoff at colds.

Very soon, the fear and panic is going to turn to anger.
Who do you think will be the target of that anger?
chicom bump for later... ..
I’m no expert. But I think the msm and politicians (both parties) will try to focus it on Trump. That may work for a while, but eventually it will come back to them. IMHO
If you think the US economy took a hit over the past three weeks, imagine how hard it has struck at the very foundations of the Chinese economy.
Suddenly supply chains are being severed in numerous and unexpected places and unexpected ways, as sources of many of the vital materials are being shifted from Chinese origin to other countries, including right back here to the US.
It is probably time and past time for us to re-institute manufacture of our medical supplies right here in our homeland. This could get really critical really fast.
I dont blame China...I blame the media.
The democrats in conjunction with the news media set out to destroy the Trump economy before the election. They are being quite successful.
What surprises me most about this entire episode is most people know the media lies, and have had as their goal the desire to destroy Trump, and if that means destroying our economy so be it!
Sad FReepers believe everything the Fake News is feeding them regarding the Coronavirus!
And to date, only 6,500 people have died from this “great pandemic!”
We are being played by the Fake News!
Our current economic dislocation shows the fallacy of the “service economy.” When you depend on human interaction for economic activity, you become particularly vulnerable to something like this.
Another reason to return manufacturing to the United States.
From my reading, the Black Plague also started in China.

I agree.
Im already not exactly happy.
Quite possible. And, how many sheep here have gone right along with it?
Yep
Build American
Buy American
Shift the cheap non critical stuff to friendly countries
Close the borders
Kick out the illegals
Build The F Wall
H1N1 hit the world in 2009. One BILLION people caught it. 545,000 died. (0.0545%)
60,000,000 Americans caught it. 12,000 died. (0.02%... only 1/3 the global rate. Our medical system is pretty darn good.)
What's confounding me is that 275,000 Americans were hospitalized in a few months of 2009 (just before ObamaCare hit, by the way)... and not one story of strained resources or bans or closings or cancellations. Today, we have 1700 cases (many have already recovered), only 40 deaths (2.35%, again better than the global 2.8%), and only 200 hospitalizations... and we hear constantly about the strained resources now. Less than 1/1375 the hospitalizations, and we are at our limits now? WTH?
I can only assume that everyone is playing the "what if" game, and desperately trying to spread out the timeline to avoid any big hit on hospitals... because the worst case scenario numbers are unpleasant (2.35% of 60m is 1.4 million dead Americans)... but that still doesn't explain things like Las Vegas shutting itself down, and walking away from their money-harvesting machines, long before we have hit even 50 dead.
If this is true, then why is Trump taking the actions that he is?
Why are Italy and Spain on lock down?
Is it possible that Trump is taking the actions that he is, because he knows more than we do?
What its truly all about.
All of it.
Somewhere there is bound to be a smoking gun that connects the dots of what you have suggested.
