L.A. city, county libraries closed through end of month due to COVID-19

Prompted by concerns over the spreading novel coronavirus, public libraries in both the the city and county of Los Angeles were closed Saturday, and expected to remain shut down through the end of the month.

Both the Los Angeles Public Library and the Los Angeles County Library announced this weekend that all locations are to be closed through March 31.

And both libraries said in written statements that due dates would be extended and fines would not be levied during the closure, allowing guests to return materials once the branches reopen.

“We understand the impact closing libraries has on all Angelenos and are taking this action at the direction of city and health authorities and out of an abundance of caution for the health of our patrons and staff,” L.A. City Librarian John F. Szabo said. “During this time we encourage people to access our librarians by telephone or online, and use our extensive digital resources through lapl.org.”

The county library system’s closure affects 86 branches.

The library closed because the cost of sanitizing every page of every checked in book is prohibitive.

The library and thus LA county is vulnerable to claims of spreading the virus by library book. The Lawyer has a doctor’s affidavit proving the reader has corona virus

The next LA step is to begin handing out free Kindle’s to all the tent squatting homeless

A good point.

I visited LA County Libraries outside Los Angeles city limits...Those libraries, in general, were not full of homeless people.

Some LA City Libraries...That is a different story...
