"The picture you showed about the microphone, let’s get real here. There are certain things that you have to do. If I left the microphone like that, you would see nothing but the microphone," Fauci said. "My putting my two fingers to get the microphone down isn’t that bad, so I don’t think we should make something of that."

Let’s get real.

IN the current media environment, your question is quite understandable, but ...

EVERY human body, on the skin surface and the gut, is covered with millions if not billions of bacteria, viruses and fungus spores. EVERYONE. Is. Like. This. Even your pets.

The environment you happily existed in prior to two weeks ago was ready to infect you, make you test positive for any number of pathogens. It’s not different now, except a NEW virus, ie “novel” in its genetic code, is now ALSO possibly on that gym equipment, door handle, toilet paper dispenser, shopping cart, etc.

It does not hurt to clean surfaces and wash your hands etc. But do not STRESS over it. If the world did not make you sick two weeks ago, just by living and exercising in it, or touching a podium, then it probably won’t now. If however you are in (already were in) the at-risk population for THIS corona virus, then YOU were at risk two weeks ago for all the OTHER pre-existing corona viruses already out there, everywhere. Or the bacteria, or the fungi.

A corona virus is part of a large Family of viruses already so fully present and prevalent in our world that they too would qualify for ‘pandemic’ classification IF the human population wasn’t already immunized (by vaccine or prior exposure) and able to prevent the onset of disease via antibodies and the general immune system response to a pathogen. Realistically you and I were ‘infected’ by a pathogen numerous times in the last two weeks and we did not present with symptoms because our bodies did the facial recognition thing on the viruses (protein recognition really) and the illegal invaders were tagged and bagged by our own bodies.

If you were/are immune system compromised, then the above is of course not as true, since, well, your immune system is compromised. Also if you were already sick with pathogen disease A, then your immune system is a little tied up to fight off new-arrival pathogen B. This is why your doc might give you antibiotics when are sick with Virus A (even though antibiotics DO NOT treat a viral infection) to provide a helping hand to your already-busy immune system fighting a virus. ANY TIME you are sick, and another pathogen gets in (more enemies at the gate) then you are likely to get worse.

THIS corona virus *IS* highly virulent (spreads and infects easily, like MOST corona viruses) and finds a LOT of healthy unsuspecting hosts this time around because we do not have the pre-existing antibodies for it — it is novel or new.

The point of all this rambling is simple: if you were already at high-risk for any viral respiratory infection, then you ARE at higher risk with this corona virus because it is new, and a lot of people already are or will become carriers and spreaders until the human population develops natural or pharmaceutic-ally-induced immunity and the viruses simply can’t land in enough viable hosts. If you are NOT in the high-risk categories, then this corona virus is NOT at all likely to make you severely sick or kill you. *IF* you do get sick from it, take all necessary measures to not let it progress into pneumonia — just like you would with ANY respiratory infection.
