Trump’s National Emergency press conference was a tour de force

During his Friday press conference, President Trump announced that he had partnered with the private sector to fight the war against coronavirus. As the various CEOs spoke, someone at Fox News had the clever idea to put a stock market ticker on the screen. It’s mesmerizing to watch the ticker go up and up as Trump and the others speak.

Trump also copied the WWII model for victory by having government retreat, not expand. During WWII, the government made demands on industry; it did not regulate it. The speakers at the press conference made clear that it was government regulation that was stifling America’s ability to fight this viral war. To fight against a vicious enemy, Trump cleared the way for private sector innovation, efficiency, and patriotism:

PotUS has put US on war alert.

“Bye, bye,
Buy soap,
Save your life,
Wash your hands.”

Only the Greatest Generation will get this one.

And while PT was hard at work, Pelousy was sitting in a chair getting her plastic face and smile plastered on for her comments to we the people. A phony inside and out. God bless and protect our President and his family.

Right now one of the big limitations is testing.

There are shortages of necessary chemicals and excessive regulations are largely to blame

Both because regulations have driven manufacturing off shore and because of onerous certification process for anything medical

Now imagine, God forbid, if Bernie was president. He would have announced the nationalization of all those companies. He would put people in charge who know nothing about medicine, etc. Instead of talking about testing kits and vaccines being ready in days to months, he would announce a Soviet-style Five Year Plan. The media and Millennials would rejoice that help might be possible in only five years, and that we are rid of those evil corporations and everything will be “free.”

That’s not what I heard. I believe we are good to go....even setting up drive through testing in parking Lots...we have a Target right near me. Absolutely brilliant.

It’ll be interesting to see what widespread testing shows. IIRC, one of the docs at the presser mentioned that positivity rates in South Korea were running at 4%. Which, again IIRC, means 96% of people tested had some upper respiratory bug other than WuFlu.

If President Trump doesn’t put a quick end to the panicked hoarding of supplies currently going on it will be the end of his chances at re-election.
Large parts of the populace going to the grocery store and seeing nothing but empty or near-empty shelves in the face of an emergency just a few months prior to an election do not bode well for a sitting President.
The relief bill should have imposed immediate nationwide limits on the purchase of core items to prevent hoarding.

There has been a serious delay in bringing testing kits on line. We do have the capability to ramp up testing once the road blocks are removed. They are beginning to come online and will soon be readily svsilable.

One of the biggest things in delay was early test methods was “poor discrimination” a fancy term for providing false negatives, ie the test tells you don’t have disease when you actually do.

Not helpful

This problem will resolve itself. I'm going to the store early this morning to avoid a mob. Why people don't have food and supplies for a month, I'll never know.

Lose an election over this....that's just plain nuts.

No matter what....people use "X" of any item...I certainly have no use at this time for 100 rolls of toilet paper. This "run" just cuts down on trips to the store....nothing more.

Regardless of what causes the empty shelves, it doesn’t inspire confidence in the current government/administration wherever/whenever they happen.
