The House voted just before 1 a.m. Saturday to pass an emergency coronavirus response bill to increase testing and aid people kept from work, a measure meant for quick signing by President Trump next week as the government tries to arrest the pandemic.

The final vote was 363 to 40, with one member voting "present."

"Our bill which is basically intact what we are passing," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, referring to the Democrats' original coronavirus package released on Wednesday.

"And there's some things that they wanted that we have to put off until the next time because it just came in late, you know," said Pelosi, referring to Republican requests to change the bill

The legislation, which is expected to be approved by the GOP Senate when it returns next week, came after intense talks between Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, which continued through the evening Friday.

The legislation will provide for free coronavirus testing, guarantee workers two weeks of paid sick leave, up to three months of paid leave, increase unemployment benefits, lunches for children who would normally eat at school, and increase Medicaid funding.

Assisted living starts at about $7000/month here.

“I fully support H.R. 6201: Families First CoronaVirus Response Act, which will be voted on in the House this evening,” Trump tweeted. “I encourage all Republicans and Democrats to come together and VOTE YES!”

I’m in Illinois and I called my doctor’s office yesterday. I told them I had shortness of breath last week but chalked it up to allergies kicking in, took some Claritin but that now it’s back somewhat and I also woke up with minor sore throat and little bit of chills. Nurse asked if I had fever I said No I don’t feel feverish at all but can’t say for sure because my thermometer isn’t working. She asked me the standard questions...Been out of country? Close contact with diagnosed patient? No and no so she said I would not be able to get tested and I asked what if I get worse what’s the protocol and she said go to ER but there is shortage of tests so they will treat but might not get me tested....

This state had the first known community transmission over a month ago (husband and wife I believe) and prez Trump said whoever wants a test can get a test right? Then I kept hearing stories of people who said they are sick and can’t get tested, now I know they weren’t bs’ing.

I feel fine. Just still a bit short of breath I guess pollen or whatever is strong this year, but am not too worried as there are no other symptoms and it’s probably allergies.

BUT at work last night a co-worker sat close to me to get trained on some paperwork and I could feel his breath at one point. I then distanced but was too late. now I’m a lil’ skeered lol.

Getting testing online is critical

We are way behind the curve right now and its one of the areas where we have really fallen down

Lots of reasons for that but its water under the bridge at this point. We need get testing kits online ASAP

Absolutely

Bottom line is that if the corona virus does not hit in a big way, the President does not need to spend the funding . If the disease hits hard, these are not bad policies

Trump’s claim that everyone who wants a test can get a test was as false as Obama’s claim that you could keep your doctor.

I am singularly disappointed in how Trump has handled this, he’s made such a complete mess of it and I think it’s going to cost lives. Downplaying it in January was a mistake, claiming it would go away in a few days was a mistake, putting Pence in charge instead of a doctor was a mistake, firing the Pandemic team back in 2018 was a huge mistake.

This has been awful to watch, I feel ill - not virusy, but like, heartsick.

Anything in the bill calling for the mass arrests of "Right Wing White Nationalists"?

Billions for Abortions?

Emptying the nation's prisons?

Just looked at yahoo news. Glowing article with St. Pelosi’s picture about this bill passing the house, about a half-dozen denigrating Trump.

So Trump actually gets stuff done in the real world, the swamp praises itself on paper-pushing.

I think you are being ridiculous over Trumps reaction to this, I frankly think the whole damn country is being ridiculous the hysteria over this is absolutely baffling!!! The only damn people that should be freaking out are the elderly AND people with underlying conditions for those folks they should quarantine themselves for now!! We as neighbors and family should help the elderly and folks with underlying conditions do their errands for them ect.!!!

The should have included eVerify to ensure that any job-related benefits go only to US citizens and people authorized to be here. Everyone else gets deported.

I assume that any benefits paid to legal or illegal immigrants will impact their citizenship or Green Card status under the Inadmissibility on Public Charge Grounds rules put in effect in October. So I don't expect any of them will be using these benefits.

Well, I live in Taipei, though I’m Montanan originally and I’ve seen what a good response looks like. Taiwan has more exposure to China than any country on earth AND the outbreak began at Chinese New Year, which is a travel-and-family holiday on a scale Americans can’t appreciate.

Taiwan has had only 50 cases and 1 death because the government reacted immediately and strongly. School was shut down in February, the export of masks and medical supplies were stopped in February, passenger screening started then, the contacts of every case were extensively traced. When it was discovered the Diamond Princess had docked in Taiwan the government used the national MMS alert system which is usually used for earthquakes and typhoons to alert the entire nation of where its passengers had gone in Taiwan. That was February 7th!

Meanwhile Trump tweeted “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the US” on February 24th. I believe he was knowingly lying to try to protect the market. Well, now his lies are going to cost lives. This disease sends 20% of the people who get it to the hospital. The US had time, Trump wasted that time. He has literally killed people. I’m furious.
