People who recover from the coronavirus can still be left with substantially reduced lung functions, Hong Kong Hospital Authority have found after observing the first wave of discharged patients.
The doctors found a drop of 20% to 30% in lung capacity in two or three out of those 12 patients.

And they are making this pronouncement after what? A month since getting over the virus?
Yeah - and Trump is going to declare a National Emergency at 3pm - which - you know - we always do for the flu. And the news has been out there for 30 minutes or so - but yet nobody here (a site which is ALWAYS on top of breaking news) wants to post it.
I would like to see more data. Being out of breath when you walk quickly could be a function of reconditioning from a hospitalization rather than a permanent decrease i. lung function. There were a lot of mights in the story as well. In addition. they did not say if these patients were among the most ill or not... Lastly bronchospasm caused by a viral illness can take 6-& weeks or more to clear and is reversible
There are plenty of other sources to read which confirm these early studies. ignore those all as well.

We don’t even know the ages of supposed ‘2 or 3’.

Of course you didn't respond to the substance - compared to what? Where in the "article" does it describe pre-illness lung function? What is the age range of this group

The docs in a few areas are intelligently making this prognosis. Like most flues, it can lead to pneumonia. That can leave lungs scarred and weaker than they were. And there is a problem with your immune system...aroused by the presence of a viral invader, our bodies step up to fight the disease by flooding the lungs with immune cells to clear away the damage and repair the lung tissue. But for some their immune system goes haywire and those cells kill anything in their way, including your healthy tissue. So they get more damage instead of less from the immune response and even more debris clogs up the lungs, and pneumonia worsens.
In severe cases, they basically flood their lungs and they can’t breathe. That’s one way people are dying with the virus. There are other ways.

I take the situation very seriously, and being a woman nearly 60 years old with insulin dependent diabetes, I have taken actions to limit exposure (canceling all medical/dental appointments) and continue to use my already routine measures to limit getting illnesses (never touch door handles, use many alcohol swabs to clean hands after being in public places, and other things). I have prepped with my needed medical supplies many weeks ago, as well as with food/water, etc.
My job is gone as of yesterday, until further notice from my employer. So how’s that for understanding this is REAL?
I am saying: Do want can be done like I have.
Excessive media panic stories will only scare people.

There have been other coronaviruses, and their impact on lung function similar enough to draw conclusions about this one.
