Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, who met last week with U.S. Attorney General William Barr and Ivanka Trump, said Friday he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Dutton said he was tested after developing a fever, a common symptom of COVID-19, and a sore throat, which is a less common sign.
"Anyone who tests positive is to be admitted into hospital and I have complied with their advice," Dutton said in a statement. "I feel fine and will provide an update in due course."
Dutton visited Washington, D.C., for security meetings last week and met with both Barr and Ivanka Trump on March 6. One photo shows him standing with the pair and White House adviser Kellyanne Conway.
He returned to Sydney for a cabinet meeting and then to his home in Brisbane on Tuesday.
A spokesman said Prime Minister Scott Morrison doesn't plan to be tested for the coronavirus after medical officials reiterated that "only people who had close contact with [Dutton] in the preceding 24 hours before he became symptomatic need to self-isolate."
"That does not include the prime minister or any other members of the Cabinet," the spokesman added.
Dutton's positive test followed a similar diagnosis Thursday for Brazilian communications official Fabio Wajngarten, President Jair Bolsonaro's primary press officer. He tested positive after accompanying Bolsonaro on a visit to U.S. President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida last weekend.

IMO the admin needs to show leadership with the social distancing that they preach and is so desperately needed right now.
That means, you don’t have Pence explaining how he and Trump will continue to shake hands because that’s part of politics. (Like it’s not part of business?)
That means you don’t squeeze 15 officials onto the tiny WH press room podium for hour-long pressers.
That means you don’t stubbornly claim not to have been tested after repeat exposure to others, while you go about with continued close interactions. (Unless it’s with Nancy, Chuck and Adam.)
That means any of those Trump meeting shots have people sitting only every other chair, at best.
And you probably show Trump set up in the oval with some secure videocam communications to some department heads.

I have a feeling the president, congress and families have access to immune booster treatments that the average medical system does not have. This is 2020. Who knows what high tech stuff our gov has. The president may coat his hands with an invisible coating that blocks and kills any virus. He may inhale something that protects lungs. He did sound raspy the time he gave an address.
He got a fever and a sore throat and is feeling fine.
I just heard a story where in OHIO they estimate 100,000 people may have the virus. Let’s assume California, Washington State, New York, Florida, Pennsylvania have a proportional percentage. Let’s say right now a 1,000,000 people have the virus. Should we see 20,000 to 30,000 deaths in the next couple weeks?
We are at 40 right now.
Exactly and who is to say he did not contract the virus before he arrived here?

And Sunday’s F1 Australian Grand Prix is canceled.
Chinese GP is canceled.
Italy’s Monza GP will most likely be canceled.
There’s a possibility the whole 2020 F1 GP Season will be canceled.
This was deliberate.

Since about March 2nd, the number of COVID-19 US deaths has been bouncing between one and eight per day. Yesterday's number was 3 deaths.
The increase in the number of deaths per day is almost flat.
From what’s in the article, his symptoms are no worse than the typical flu case; but now he has to go to the hospital and probably be tended by the folks in space suits. God help anyone who gets a really serious disease — the doctors will be too busy dealing with the get-Trump virus.
And how many other people in the U.S. did he meet or have contact with??
If you trust the media then you’d have to imagine the “Trump” links are only to wonder if the Australian minister passed the Cov-19 virus to the Trumps. If you don’t trust the media, with good reason, then you’d think the “Trump” links are only to imply the Australian minister picked up the virus from the Trumps.
Either way is totally stupid considering that regardless of the ministers encounter with the Trumps, he certainly was in contact with many others in the U.S. during his visit here. He may have even had the virus when he left Australia and did not know it at the time.
