Now that the number of new people infected with the coronavirus in China is slowing, the country's Communist Party is ratcheting up threats against the West, with a particularly nasty warning about access to life-saving drugs aimed at the United States.

In an article in Xinhua, the state-run media agency that's largely considered the mouthpiece of the party, Beijing bragged about its handling of COVID-19, a virus that originated in Wuhan and has spread quickly around the world, killing nearly 5,000 people and infecting thousands more. The article also claimed that China could impose pharmaceutical export controls which would plunge America into "the mighty sea of coronavirus."

That’s how wars start.

It’s not brilliance, it’s common sense. I saw the problem with medical supplies 13 years ago as a student nurse. I saw the problem with steel 30 years ago, computer chips 20 years ago. Anyone with common sense could see.

Trump had had three years to act and has done nothing to convince people of this particular threat (medical) nor has he stockpiled supplies nor increased our production capacity.

And he twiddled his thumbs the last two months. Limiting travel to and from China is one tenth of what needed to be done. The grand gesture, he doesn’t do specifics.

China teeters on the verge of revolution at anytime. Crash the economy by abruptly stopping exports to US and revolution will be certain.

“do the right thing”

For for-profit companies, doing the right thing is making the most money.

Never should have been buying them from there in the first place.

Nixon started this by giving the ChiComs help to survive rather than continue to collapse in on themselves.

Time for that Marshall Plan to build, rebuild, retool and get Big Pharma production back on American soil...

it’s a great idea, but it would almost have to be done in a stealth manner otherwise we risk an absolute sudden cut-off by China. Maybe I’m wrong, but that was my first thought if we are that dependent on them.

All the more reason to redouble efforts to rebuild a domestic supply chain for the critical elements in stocking our pharmaceutical businesses. Apparently the nation is quite good at ramping up domestic sources of COVID-19 testing supplies and face masks, which only a few days ago were in critically short supply.

Now let us get started on reagents, biologicals, and treatment protocols to underscore our industrial capacity and determination to attain self-sufficiency in these very vital supplies.

All those high prescription prices you have been paying should be buying SOMETHING more than satisfaction that we have the priciest medical delivery costs in the world.

Well now maybe some of the old ass politicians who have been in office forever might get to reap what they have sown.....no pity.

My bet is, Trump being Trump, that he has that info and varying contingencies to handle problems, at his fingertips.

Trump is Russian in one respect: The man doesn’t take a dump without a plan.

Previous administrations allowed China to have this leverage over US by allowing American drug manufactures produce the drugs there. Lower labor costs.

How could they have legally prevented it? Corporations in the U.S. are going to cut costs in every way they can regardless of the risk to the U.S. Outsourcing jobs, manufacturing overseas, they all do it and none of it is illegal. And there's nothing the government can do about it.

And then there’s the public option.

Where American consumers go it alone, and Fedzilla becomes the least of the ChiComs’ worries.

Note to the Politburo: If you think Trump’s a bada$$, wait til get a load of an infuriated American public...

So Bill’s ex-girlfriend would have had it all dialed in? Who was your pick from the sixteen dwarfs in 2016? Jeb! Micro Rubio? The mailman’s kid? You go to war with the President you’ve got.

Remember, globalism and free trade are the way forward. Protectionism and nationalism are vile concepts when practiced by Americans, for every other nation they are fine.
