Try this thought experiment. Envision the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as a living, breathing enemy -- which, of course, is exactly what it is.
But imagine for a moment that we are in real war with a cognizant, thinking and clever enemy whose sole reason to live is to hurt, maim or kill as many of us as it can.
COVID-19 may not have jets, tanks or nukes, like our past enemies. But its arsenal, numbers, cunning and willpower are said to be formidable.
To win its war against Americans, COVID-19 must infect and sicken lots of Americans each day. If it cannot infect enough victims to multiply and sustain a hungry army of viruses, COVID-19 will soon sputter and die. It will get trapped in just a few hosts among an otherwise victorious and healthy nation of about 330 million.
Nature has given COVID-19 some weapons that its defeated cousins -- the H1N1 swine flu and the MERS and SARS viruses -- lacked.
It is more clever by being less lethal -- and a little tougher in its ability to live outside a host. Viral resiliency ensures that it rarely turns into a suicide bomber by dying with a terminally sick host, and that it does not perish so quickly when orphaned in the air and on surfaces.
The coronavirus has allies. It infiltrates our defenses by using our own weapons against us -- our dirty hands, the habitual touching of the face, and indiscreet sneezing and coughing.
Poor personal and public hygiene gives the virus some sustenance and camouflage. To win -- defined as sickening or killing thousands of us -- COVID-19 counts on our laxity. It hates careful individuals who block its invasion into the eyes, nose and mouth.

The folks here even today still saying "But X # die of [car accidents, ordinary flu, etc] every year" shows how far we have to go with education. If this many freepers don't get it, imagine how this will translate down in the hood and barrio.

LOL, educate me about what? How to scream “we’re all gonna die”!!. Show me where I once spoke out against taking precautionary measures? You can save the time because I have NOT.
I am talking about the unbridled claims of gloom and doom and forecasts of the end of everything in just 10 days or so. I have seen it all before and detailed in a previous post those occurrences.
Could this time be different? Sure but screaming at the sky does nothing except panic those who cannot reason for themselves and who forget history.
You have allowed yourself to panic as is seen by your descending into name calling.
Try and get a grip and tell your hysterical friends the same.

Where are all of the smuggled out videos from China the last two weeks? If we accept the panicked projections of a month ago there should be hundreds of thousands of Chinese deaths, tens of millions of Chinese on respirators. It has obviously peaked in China. Remember the claims a month ago that it will ravage sub Saharan Africa with millions of deaths? No, that didn’t happen either. We are now at the point where we can compare the scare projections with facts. Just like with climate change, the panic mongers forget what they were saying would be happening now and go on to the next dire projection.
I don’t doubt for a minute that many on the left and in the media (but I repeat myself) are secretly rejoicing over this situation. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t simultaneously true that this is a serious situation that merits everyone pitching in to change their behavior.
While the left is happy to capitalize, that doesn’t mean we should act recklessly as if that will somehow create a political advantage. In fact by taking that approach you work counter to your political interests in addition to our collective healthcare interest (to get this behind us as quickly as possible).
Bottom line - this isn’t about politics folks. Better get used to that idea.

We are not trying to spread panic, but to get us off the Italian Autostrada and onto a path more similar to Taiwan and S. Korea.

It's basically the opposite of what Italy did.
South Korea and Taiwan chose a path much closer to China's strict quarantine, and have kept their hospitals from being overrun, and their death rate below 1%.
The problem..ALMOST ALWAYS..is not the sensible people.
On one hand it is reckless people.
and on the other it’s greedy or self serving politicians.
As a country our so called leaders should never have allowed ten of millions of illegals to occupy our country.
Many who have NEVER been tested for anything ..let alone deadly virus and the like.
Meanwhile our politicians who fought for open borders are now flailing their arms over a virus that has killed less people, by far, than illegals have.
As far as the reckless people..which includes illegals but also our own government school miseducated youth.
Many who can’t even tell time ..let alone be bothered with anything even remotely approaching a pandemic.
Does anyone think the people that actually need to be reached (the slobs who don’t wash their hands after they use the toilet ..let alone wash their hand at all) are going to heed any warning from our leaders?

I was once in the hallway of a major trauma hospital, hard to tell, but I’m guessing their were 20 of us. Then, just like the movies, they came running in with about 6 stretchers from a major car crash that had been life-flighted in.
My injury turned out to be very minor - missed my jugular by 2 cm - but they wanted to be sure. Most of the others in the hallway were drug overdoses that just needed time to wear off.
I can’t even imagine what it would have been like if all of us had been gasping for air, waiting for the next ventilator to free up.
China has no upside in helping the rest of the world while they try to keep from sinking. They are doing everything they can to make sure we share their pain.
Team Trump is using their tactics against them to make them pay a price by accelerating the economic decoupling from China and bringing more Off shored industry back home.
The Saudis and Russians are definitely interested in breaking the backs of American frackers with low oil prices, but they have to survive too and can only stand low oil prices for so long.
The Europeans have been stoking the media fear frenzy to sink President Trump so President Trump just took them at their words. If things are sooooo bad, better shut down travel to Europe for 30 days. If they actually are as bad as we are being led to believe, great. If they aren’t, even better.
The EU travel ban is going to really hurt the EU economy.
What if the Chinese government along with players such as Soros and Bloomberg could use the WuFlu as biowarfare against us and the Trump Presidency in order to get their power back? They can buy every important stock at a steep discount and truly own the global market with no fear of losing it again.
