‘Buy American’ — White House Confirms Executive Order That Will End Medical Supply Chain Reliance On China
dailycaller ^ | 3-11-2020 | Christian Datoc

White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro confirmed Wednesday the administration is working on an executive order to eliminate the government’s reliance on foreign-made medical supplies.

The “Buy American” order comes on the heels of concerns expressed by senators during their Tuesday meeting with President Donald Trump on Capitol Hill.

[snip]

The order would prevent federal agencies from purchasing medical supplies, including face masks, gloves and ventilators, from China.

[snip]

China has prevented the export of surgical face masks, severely limiting supplies in the U.S. and countries around the world.

“China has managed to dominate all aspects of the supply chain using the same unfair trade practices that it has used to dominate other sectors — cheap sweatshop labor, lax environmental regulations and massive government subsidies,” Navarro told New York Times. “As President Trump has said, what we need to do is bring those jobs home so that we can protect the public health and the economic and national security of the country.”

He added that the EO would cover more than 400 “essential medicines” that “satisfy the priority health care needs of the population.” Additional products targeted in the order include “medical countermeasures” made to protect against chemical and biological threats, radiation, nuclear fallout and infectious diseases like coronavirus.

“Nothing we do now will impede in any way our ability to get what we need when we need it from foreign sources,” he told CBS.

China plays nasty...everywhere they have their hands working it’s with the ultimate role of controlling sectors of production they can use as leverage. They choose where they invest very carefully and walk it equally so. Deception is their way of life and business.

The new toilets would likely work that much better without arbitrary limits on the amount of water they can use.

Mine flushes first time, every time, doesn't plug up, and has caused me no trouble. How would taking the water limit make that better?

I replaced every toilet that came with my house and did not work, which is all of them. I have expensive toilets that work well with the limited water standard. Could probably make them work as well or better for cheaper if they were allowed to use more water. The whole thing is another gubmint stupid AF thing, much like the low flow shower heads, the light bulb thing, dishwashers and anything else FedGov touches and turns to crap. It is not like we have a shortage of water that I am aware of. My point being that I should not have had to replace every toilet in my house just to get them to flush reliably but I did.

There was no reason for freaking government to become involved to begin with except Bush was weak kneed and caved.

I agree with that part. I disagree with your premise. You can get LEDs with about any shade of incandescent look you want. I hated that the government got involved but the result was not all bad.

I use 5 LEDs in my bathroom for the cost of one 60 watt bulb, that is a plus in my opinion. In my garage I bought some bulb adapters that let me use 4 bulbs in one socket, I have more light than you can imagine all for the operating cost of less than a hundred watt, old style bulb.

Go to a store that handles a larger variety of LEDs and you can find a bulb that emits a shade of light that pleases you, I am sure of that.

Maybe so but the truth is they work just fine the way they are what more do you want them to do?

Old dogs can learn new tricks, I am 81 and love them.

I own a lot of properties, so I'm always on the lookout for a good toilet. I've had expensive ones turn out bad and cheap ones work like champions. There's no predicting them, you just have to take pot luck.

“It seems odd to buy our medicine from the same people who are developing bioweapons that they are planning to use against us.”

Not only buying our medicine from China, but our food and not just for us, but our pets, too.

I had to replace all three in my house, built 2001 because none of them worked right. I think by now the industry has probably learned to make them work well with the mandated water standard but the FedGov shouldn’t have been involved in toilet design in the first place in my view. It annoys me every time I think about it.

No they actually didn't, the new ones are superior in every way. They are very quiet and I never have to double flush at all anymore, can you say the same about the old ones? Yeah I know never is a little strong because I think I might have once or twice.

I am glad that you are happy with the federal government bureaucrats mandating toilet standards. I think it was stupid of them to do so.

One more time. I never said I was happy about the government mandates, I have only said repeatedly that the new stools are superior in every way. That is not the same thing.

What is done is done. Technology in this case was able to overcome the government mandate and produce a better product. I would not expect us to be as lucky in other cases, this time we were.

Freon is a whole other story, limited shower heads was another and dishwashers are a disaster, but shouldn't let a dumb government decision keep you from utilizing a better product just because you feel the government meddled where they shouldn't have.

Excellent. This is something that should be done anyway, and the Coronavirus only shows people why.

Partner, Great Post. We need to quit relying on the Chicoms.

We should have done this a long time ago.

I’ll have to look more closely. Price wise though....before the ‘signing’ I could buy 4 bulbs (any watt) for $1.00 at Dollar General. Pricing has tripled or quadrupled and for 1 or 2 bulbs, not the 4 pack.

Everything that is made in China should be required to be labeled with a Chinese Flag and the words “Made In China”. Every bit of medical equipment, every medicine, every food, every single little thing.

Let the consumer know, and let him decide.

I, for one, would never knowingly consume anything made in China. Their quality control is crap, and they just don’t give a damn if I eat melamine or sawdust, or some other garbage, as long as it fits in the can.

They just have different standards for that sort of thing. Nothing against the Chinese, it is just a different way of doing things.

I prefer to be able to look at a can and be reasonably certain that what it says on the outside is what is on the inside. That is the American way.

President Trump’s Buy American initiative is in response to a much more sinister set of facts and events involving Red China international espionage.

True, on the ‘face’ of it.

BUT

I seem to remember several years ago some ‘China produced’ product was tainted and the bottom line was the top Execs of the Company involved were ‘dealt with’, rather harshly in our way of thinking.

BUT when poor QC results in ones demise it sorta keeps things on an even keel....THEN AGAIN, they were probably executed for getting caught and ‘embarrassing’ the powers that be. <: <: <:

All we need is a 20% tariff on imports and then get out of the way. The greed factor will repatriate production. A tariff is a GUARANTEED profit margin. A big one.
