British police say they have shot dead a man who was brandishing two knives near Trafalgar Square in central London.
The Metropolitan Police force said Monday that the shooting wasn't terror-related.

No worries. That will soon drop to no knife attacks at all. And that’s because a UK company has just come out with a set of blunt knives. This exciting trend is bound to sweep the country.
Don’t really see this cutting it. I think a sharper solution would be a smart knife, with a built-in safety blade lock that can only be deactivated by a fingerprint scan matching the registered owner and a per-use authorization code obtained from the state agency for weapon control. That ought to fix them right up.

You prediction might soon come to pass. According to the article below, the UK now classifies kitchen knives as offensive weapons.

And swords and knives are common wall decorations in Japan. They’re as common as guns in rural communities, and as much a part of the Japanese culture. They should ban all Toshiro Mifune flicks.

Quite right. And if he was brandishing a garrote, they should have unlaced their shoes and had at him. Ditto with broad swords. No rapier or samurai swords, just a broad sword. Suicide vest, they put on their suicide vests. Now, if he were on horseback with a jousting lance...
