Italy is home to a substantial
expatriate Chinese community amounting to 1/2% of the population. It's unclear as to whether they carried the virus from their home country, but it's certainly a possibility.

Unless the race, ages and underlying medical conditions of those affected are released, the numbers alone mean little in trying to understand this pathogen. When the diagnostic kits are widely available it will be shown that the virus has infected many but relatively few are becoming seriously ill or dying. The CDC and WHO have this data but they are not releasing it. The data may be very politically incorrect and explosive.

We would have done ourselves a favor if we had treated air travel from Italy the same as from China.

What is going on with Italy.
It has 95.35% more fatalities than the second place nation, and 8.7358
times more deaths than the third place nation.
That third place nation, is South Korea.
At 11:13 PST Italy had declared 9,172 cases to South Korea's 7,478.
That's not enough to account for this massive fatality discrepancy.
It almost sounds as if Italy is treating this disease with something
that is costing lives.

Would be interesting to learn the racial component of those lost lives.

Has anyone seen the ages of the victims? I am curious if the virus strikes mainly seniors.

Italy has the 5th highest median age at 46.5 years (2018 estimate)
The US is 61st with a median age of 38.5 tears. (2018 estimate)
Our median age is 8 years younger than theirs.
That might impact the numbers - they are an older population.

I picked up friend of mine last Sunday at the Airport who lives in Italy (Padua Area). She say that it is nowhere near as bad as over there as the US News is making it out to be.
I can't comment on the validly of her statement, but this is her claim.

If you look at Chinas data, things are improving rapidly. I havent heard much lately about China from media panic mongers.
