70s were the opposite, that was the oil embargo and high prices and rationing.
This is all great till we examine potential outcomes in states like Texas. Low or no development leads to an economic disaster like destroyed real estate prices, construction halts, and banks pressured.
The Arab Oil Embargo didn’t start until October of 1973.
I got my driver’s license in January 1970. So for nearly 4 years we had fairly cheap gasoline. I drove my parents big Buick station wagon all over the place and didn’t worry much about the fuel costs, even though I had to pay for what I used.
The price of a gallon of gasoline was around $0.35 per gallon depending on location and formula.
My dream cars were the Dodge Chargers, Mustangs and Camaros of the Muscle Car era. (I have since owned all three!)
According to the Federal Government’s CPI Inflation calculator:
https://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl?cost1=.35&year1=197003&year2=202001
That is $2.36 per gallon today, which it is, locally, but is dropping.
I was in the Marine Corps during the Arab Oil Embargo, so it didn’t affect me as much as the civilian world......................
